The Royalty payment issue came to light when Veteran actress Naila Jaffery, who has been fighting cancer for six years, posted a video, in which she has appealed to the television channels to at least pay the royalties to the actors on reruns of the projects. Later on, many other celebrities came forward to support her stance on the issue, and the matter got noticed.
Politician and Senator Faisal Javed took notice of a trend that was previously started by Mikaal Zulfiqar and later on got hype when actress Naila Jaffry pointed out the need for royalties. Faisal Javed Shared a post on social media saying,” Most countries around the world give royalties /residuals to artists every time a show, their work is re-run, a 2nd time or more. However, sadly in Pak where many artists are already underpaid, there is no policy or law ensuring that artists be given financial credit for their work.”
He further said, “Therefore, it is very critical to fill the gaps & bring proper framework via amendments in legislation to ensure that our producers, artists get their rights to royalties. Am in touch with all stakeholders & iA a comprehensive bill is being brought soon to address this v imp issue.”
