Every body has been a fan of PTV plays like Ankahi, Tanhaiyan, Dhoop Kinare, Waris etc, which are available on DVD’s and PTV has aired them several times. However there are a few hidden gems of PTV which are rarely available today and PTV has not aired them for quite a while.
1. Nasheman
Writer: Saleem CHishti
Director: Yawar Hayat, Nusrat Thakur
Probably the biggest cast PTV ever brought together. The drama was based on a feudal story and was a very big hit at the time of its release. However, unfortunately PTV never aired this drama nor did it release the DVD’s of this drama serial due to which many people have forgotten this gem.
2. Dahleez
Writer: Amjad Islam Amjad
Director: Yawar Hayat
Again a huge cast brought together, this was Amjad Islam Amjad’s second play after Waris. But again PTV did not release its DVD’s but luckily it was aired last year on PTV. However no site uploaded it online and hence many people still cannot watch this gem.
3. Saahil
Writer: Saleem Chishti
Director: Yawar Hayat, Sahira Kazmi
This was based on Iffat Qureshi’s novel and was a big phenomenon at the time of its release. Probably Saba Hameed’s claim to fame and her character Neeli became her identity. Luckily this serial is uploaded on youtube but a few of its episodes are missing and neither PTV has aired this gem in a long time.
4. Waqt
Writer: Amjad Islam Amjad
Director: Nusrat Thakur
This drama was based on police and was liked by all. Online there have been many requests to different channels on youtube to upload this drama. However its DVD’s are rarely available and PTV has not repeated this marvelous serial since ages.
5. Ana
Writer: Fatima Surraiya Bajia
Director: Haider Imam Rizvi
This serial featured a huge ensemble star cast like all other plays of Bajia and was quite famous at the time of its release. But again PTV has not released or aired this drama since ages.
6. Dastak
Writer: Imran Saleem
Director: Shahzad Khalil
A romantic mini serial everybody should watch, it is basically a coming of age story beautifully presented. Luckily this rare gem is available on youtube abs should be watched by all.
7. Khaleej
Writer: Imran Saleem
Director: Sahira Kazmi
An amazing portrayal of marriage and trust. PTV has repeated this drama quite a few times and luckily this serial is also available on youtube and shouls be seen by evveryone who is tired of the roti dhoni mzaloon aurat in todays dramas.
8. Karwaan
Writer: Abdul Qadir Junejo
Director: Iqbal Ansari
One of the best serials from PTV Karachi Centre. Brilliant acting and superb story. This play is available online.
9. Aur Dramay
Writer: Ashfaq Ahmed
Director: Yawar Hayat, Arif Waqar, Ghazanfar Ali, Sahira Kamzi
Amazing long plays on different subjects. This is a wonderful work of art by ashfaq ahmed and should be seen by all. A few plays from this series are available online.
10. Drama 81-86
Writers: Younis Javed, Ashfaq Ahmed, Bano Qudsia, Anwar Maqsood, Haseena Moin, Jameel Malik, Munnu Bhai, Anwar Sajjad, Amjad Islam Amjad, Saleem Chishti
Director: Muhammad Nisar Hussain
Different long plays exploring vast variety of subjects. Should be seen by all to see how innovative and intellectual writers were on PTV. A few dramas are available online namely Fehmida Ki kahani, Ragon Main Andhera, Daur e Junoon, Mirza and Sons, Kanch Ka Pul, Darwaza and Roshni.
