Kaneez – The End

kaneez

kaneez

So, this wonderful journey named ‘Kaneez’ came to an end. In the last scene we saw Peer Bakht with his 2 wives and their naya nawela waaris.. I really loved the show but the ending? NA, not so! Maybe it was the sudden unrealistic change in Bibi Murshed’s behaviour or the ressemblace with Doosri Biwi’s end, but I just don’t think the end did justice to the drama. Anyhow, before I discuss that let’s take a look at what the last few episodes had to offer.

What I really loved about Kaneez were the realistic & dynamic characters. One of my most favourites was that of Peer Saleh, a typical bigra hua peer and how he changed from that into a perfect human being.  This dialogue describes the change in Saleh’s personality in a perfect way “mere parwardigar ne mujh gunehgaar per khas rehm kiya or mujhe wahan bheejdiya. Khaas inayat hai mere rab ki mujh per, haadsaat ke baad haadsaat ne mujhe hila kar rakh diya. Meri shaan ko thikane laga diya. Mere dimaagh me takkabur ki sari chah nikal gayi. Bacha to, eek khali khuli khokla, peer Saleh.

Another significant change was that of Meherbano. She always lived in envy for her sister, deprived of love and had some extreme superiority feelings. But her daughter’s marriage & death changed all of that. At first, she wasn’t ready to accept her husband’s long lost wife and daughter but eventually gave in and accepted Saadiqa and Tahira with open arms. I really liked the fall of her ego & the scene where she hugged Saadiqa was very well written, acted and directed.

Both of them realised that they should stop stepping over people just for the sake of their khaandaan. “aapko kia lagta hai, khandaan ne hamare saath qabar me jaana hai? Har kisi ne akele akele qabar me jana hai? Har kisi se akele akele sawaal hone hen.” Well that was one on-time realisation. How much do I wish that our peer Bakht would accept this big truth too?
But no, Peer Bakht was always one buzdil man and he remained it. Somehow he did manage to man up and tell Sheherbano about his first marriage: “mohabbat ne to sabit kardiya ke wo khatm nehin hone wali, haan is baar khandaan ki rasmen dam torti nazar aati hen” but her rooth ke jaana & emotional blackmail karna reminded him again that his izzat was more important than kamzaat people’s life. He asked Malkaan to stay in his house as a maid & again our holy Malkaan happily agreed. I must say, I never bothered much about her becharapan because it was somehow justified. But at this very moment, I was really thinking of how one could be such a qurbani ki gaye?!?
So the dastaar was given to Peer Saleh. As much as I find that type of things OTT, I was very happy that someone like Peer Saleh became incharge of the family because he was now a someone who wouldn’t allow any injustice & deserved that title.

Kaneez - The End
And Since he did many good things, destiny gave him good things in return. Banafshe & Peer Saleh were blessed by a little baby boy. But that wasn’t the only thing that was granted to him that day. He also found out that Rabeel was still alive. He couldn’t bring her back but atleast he did the right thing to tell his mother about her daughter’s existence. At the end of the day, blood relations will always remain no matter what.
I loved the scene where Saleh, Meherbano, Rabeel, Kabeer, Banafshe reunited as one happy family.
I always loved this show for its unexpected twists and turns.. But Malkaan being pregnant? That was a little bit too much I think. The only good thing about this turn of events was Malkaan FINALLY realising that being as submissive as her, was not good at all. When peer Bakht asked her to abort the child, she had all those flashbacks & realised that there was no light at the end of the long tunnel she had been travelling for 20 years. Peer Bakht’s love was nonwhere to be seen, even though she had done every single thing to earn it.. “Malkaan, agar to gheirat mand baap ki aulaad hogi, to ye jagah ye muqaam marte dam tak yaad rakhe gi. Sirf muhabbat karte rehna, aurat ko zeeb nehin deta. Jis tarah aurat ke dil ki maang hai mehboob. ussi tarah uske wajood ki maang hai izzat, rishton ka waqar! or jo mard, tieno cheeze cheen le, usse chahne per auraat ko khud hi doob ker mar jana chahiye”.
Even after the doctor’s remindings of Malkaan’s life being in danger if she would abort the child, Peer Bakht insisted on this to happen. But when he heard that this child was a boy, his expressions changed. The desire of having a waaris, made him change this decision. Sheherbano left the house again, but this time he didn’t give in to her blackmailing, now his waaris was was on the way, nothing would stop him.
But seeing this waaris and Malkaan’s say aapki kaneez ka beta made Sheherbano change & we saw bare sarkaar with his khandaani biwi, his kaneez and his naya nawela waaris living happily ever after. Does this mean that only giving birth to a boy will make a man like Peer Bakht announce his love marriage? Does this mean that, if Noor Afroz had been a boy, none of this drama would have happened? Speaking of Noor Afroz, I really missed her and Ahraam in this last episode. Are “happy” ending dikhani hi thi to unhe to lee ate..
However, this was one memorable show and an excellent watch on weekends. So still a big thanks to the whole team for providing us with a lovely journey! All the actors did a great job, the direction was top & the production values didn’t give anything to complain either.
So that’s it from my side, I would love to hear your views & feel free to disagree :)
& I’m veryyyyy sorry for being so late but I’m such a bad planner :s
Take Care
