Malala Yousafzai’s a name that needs no introduction. The youngest Nobel Prize laureate is an activist working avidly for girl education around the world
As announced earlier in 2017, a biographical film based on the life of Malala Yousufzai, titled Gul Makai has been in the works, with Reem Sheikh playing the titular role. Although the completion of the film did take some time, Gul Makai finally has a release date and will be releasing all over on January 31st 2019.
Gul Makai is a reference to the pen name Malala used when she wrote for BBC from Swat in her teens. The film will be a Bollywood production, directed by Amjad Khan, shot in the Indian occupied region of Kashmir.
Gul Makai will also feature the late Om Puri (in his final film), Divya Dutta, Atul Kulkarni, Mukesh Rishi and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles.
In January 2019, Gul Makai received a special screening at the UN in London. The screening was attended by 450 dignitaries from around the world alongside Pakistani and Indian high commissions, British officials as well as members of the UN and IIMSAM (Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition).
