Marzi – Episodes 1 – 4

marzi 600x340 1

Honestly speaking, this drama has something missing in it. Something which should be there to make things seem justified. It is a love story and while I say this I’m reminded of lines from my favorite novel: “Ishq to wo marz hai jis kay mareez ko ye mashra, is ka literature thapkian de kr sulata hai. Kiunke jo cheezain rawaj me a jaen un ka ghalat hona zehnon se nikal jata hai.”

It’s all about a girl Manal (Rubab Hashim) and her intense desire to act freely or I should say it’s all about her whereabouts lol because her many times disappearance has been discussed in this drama more than anything else. Her behnoi (Baber Ali) bears her family’s expenses. Irfan, her behnoi is a very rich person with a zamindar background and runs an FM channel and has a far relative Zain (Junaid Khan) work in his channel. Manal makes a call to his live show and falls for him. And beside her “love” for Zain, I think she also wants to marry him to hurt Irfan’s ego as Irfan dislikes Zain for no apparent reason I must say. She proposes Zain, he refuses, Irfan dismisses him from his job, his relative with whom Zain’s sister Mariam is married sends her back to maika for punishment and Manal visits him again resulting in him being locked up and tortured by police. In her meeting with Zain, he tells her to go get admitted to mental asylum and she goes there forcing the in charge to admit her saying, “ye mohabbat ki marzi hai.”

The acting of Baber Ali has failed to impress me as he is supposed to be a “ghuseela zamindar” but his accent and dialogue delivery fail to leave an impact. The overacting of Janan Malik is very annoying I must say. Junaid Khan and Rubab Hashim are acting well. Also, I fail to understand why does Irfan want them separated and the insistence of Manal on how he dominates her family and makes decisions for them seems unjustified as there are hardly any scenes suggesting that he is a dominative person. I wish writer/director had worked on that aspect properly showing us some scenes where Irfan can be seen making decisions for her family which she doesn’t want to be made.

Overall, the production of Geo TV is always good so no complaints about that, direction is also good but acting of some actors is not up to the mark. Junaid Khan effortlessly plays the role of a boy who has no idea what is going on in his life and what Manal wants to do with his life. It is a decent drama to watch.
