Salaams to all! Surkh Jora- a psychological thriller many may not have heard of took off a fantastic start. It airs every Monday on Hum Sitarey, a channel that gave us the wonderful drama Rung. (Rung ended many months ago, starred Imran Aslam, Kiran Chaudry – was a fantastic fresh storyline, must watch also).
Surkh Jora stars Azfar Rehman, Sonya Hussain, Laila Zuberi, Naila Jafferey, Irfan Khoosat and more. It is written by Uzma Kamran, directed by Syed Khurram. Now I know Azfar Rehman is an actor many may not like because many roles he does are lover boy types but if you watch more of his dramas, Azfar Rehman is not only a handsome face, he has a strong dialogue delivery and his roles in Bunty I love You, De Ijaazat Jo Tu, Ishq Mein Tere and many more give proof that he plays roles which not only vary but are light on the mind.
Surkh Jora is a psychological thriller-yes you heard it right- a genre that we rarely see on screen. Azfar Rehman is Roman while Sonya Hussain is Abiha and we see Abiha in joy as she is sitting in mehndi. However Roman starts making unusual demands such as that nikah should also take place on the day of the mehndi and that Abiha should not wear any jewelry for the wedding. From here we see that Roman is disturbed but we don’t know the reason yet.
Yes Faizan Khwaja has played the psychologically disturbed character that we can somehow relate to Roman’s character but from the promos, we can see that there is more to Roman’s past we have yet to find out.
I really want more dramas to be created where we see characters like Roman. So many people say when they see a psychologically disturbed character that “yeh to psycho hai” or ” woh to pagal hai” instead of realizing that there are many people who are diagnosed with a mental illness and that should be shown in Pakistani dramas because of two things- first of all- mental illness based dramas is a genre we rarely see on screen and these people really do exist in the world. Second- isn’t it interesting when audience gets to see characters who have different side to them, a side that is comprised of mystery?
Also, Sonya Hussain has a twin sister that is the complete opposite of the shy Abiha. The twin is more on the Western style but is of nice nature and hopes that she had the chance to attend Abiha’s wedding.
On the other hand is the mysterious track of Anaya (newcomer) and Shan played by Syed Yorguc. They are friends who have one plan – to prevent Roman and Abiha’s wedding- and from these two friends it is Anaya who seems to be extremely on the verge of taking revenge-but this is still not disclosed as to why.
Do watch Surkh Jora- something hatkey, something different from the usual. We complain that we don’t see any different story but here is one, watch for Hum sitarey in future because
-Dooriyan is another drama that is coming up that is looking interesting
-Currently Azfar Rehman, Ayesha Omar and Noor Hassan’s new drama called ‘Miss U Kabhi Kabhi’ started May 1st. (every Friday at 8 pm) looks light and nice.
