Pakistani dramas are loved globally. In addition to good and relatable storylines, suitable editing, and direction, the cast also plays an important role in any show’s success. Sometimes, a good cast combination can take a good show to greatness, both in the minds of fans and on TRP charts.
As soon as a big drama is announced, fans want to know the cast of the show. Having big and trending names helps any drama grab more eyeballs. Lately, however, this is not working with fans. Some excellent casting choices were wasted on average to below-average scripts. The biggest names as leads could not save these mid-scripts, and they suffered a decline in both ratings and views.

Agar Tum Saath Ho
Agar Tum Saath Ho is a Pakistani drama that aired on Hum TV in the prime time slot. The show came at the tail of Sanam Teri Kasam becoming a big hit on its re-release. Mawra Hocane was all over the news for her Bollywood success, and she also got married to the love of her life, Ameer Gilani. Both Mawra and Ameer were leading Agar Tum Saath Ho alongside Zaviyar Naumna Ijaz. The show still turned out to be a major flop as the story was nonsensical, and the drama could not win over the audience. Thus, even having a real-life trending couple could not save a show with a bad script.
Dil Wali Gali Mein
Dil Wali Gali Mein is another Pakistani drama that was highly anticipated. The show had Kashif Nisar in the director’s chair while Sajal Aly and Hamza Sohail were leading the show. They had just given a hit in Zard Patton Ka Bunn, and they were coming back for an Eid show. The drama had many themes that were important and well-executed, but fans could not relate to it. It did average and did not reach the heights it was expected to reach.
Ek Jhooti Kahani
Ek Jhooti Kahani is a new Pakistani drama that premiered on Hum TV, featuring the fresh pairing of Mohib Mirza and Zara Noor Abbas. Zara previously captured the audience’s attention in Standup Girl, while Mohib impressed viewers with his performance as Hasan in Jafaa. However, despite its lighthearted and comedic tone, Ek Jhooti Kahani has not resonated with the audience, and many viewers feel it falls flat.
Hijr
Another Pakistani drama that aired on Hum TV was Hijr. The show starred Imran Abbas, who is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the country. He was paired with Hina Altaf, a talented performer with a strong following. Despite having a good cast and airing on one of the top three channels, the drama struggled to capture the audience’s attention.
Humraaz
Humraaz is a Pakistani drama that was anticipated from the moment its cast was announced. The drama boasts names like Ayeza Khan, Feroze Khan, and Zahid Ahmed in the lead cast. Fans were awaiting the drama’s arrival, but it ended up becoming a disaster as soon as it was released. It is once again a testament to how no drama without a good script will work, even if you cast the top stars of the country.
Mehshar
Mehshar is a Pakistani drama featuring a large star cast, including the popular actors Imran Abbas and Neelam Muneer. The two have collaborated successfully in the past, but their pairing in Mehshar did not resonate with viewers. Despite airing on Geo TV, the drama failed to achieve the success that was anticipated. Neelam Muneer was trending at the time due to her recent marriage, but even that buzz couldn’t salvage the drama’s performance.
Meri Tanhai
Kubra Khan as the leading lady, Azaan Sam Khan opposite her as a new face, a drama shot in London, what could go wrong? But things still did not work out for this experimental Pakistani drama on Hum TV. The show completely failed to engage the audience and went unnoticed.
Raaja Rani
Raaja Rani is a Pakistani drama starring Faysal Quraishi and Hina Afridi. The show features a cinematic storyline and has sparked controversy over the age difference between the lead characters, as well as Faysal Quraishi’s impressive acting skills. On paper, everything seemed to be in place for Raaja Rani to become a blockbuster hit. However, it ultimately performed at an average level. Fans struggled to connect with the story, which contributed to its status as just another average show.
Shirin Farhad
Hum TV experimented with the story of old Lollywood, featuring Farhan Saeed and Kinza Hashmi in lead roles. The drama generated anticipation due to Farhan Saeed’s reputation as the King of Romance. While the supporting cast was strong, the script occasionally lacked coherence. Despite the presence of big stars, Shirin Farhad went largely unnoticed and failed to win over the audience.
Sunn Mere Dil
Sunn Mere Dil was a Pakistani drama that aired on Geo TV. The show featured prominent actors such as Wahaj Ali and Maya Ali in leading roles. The supporting cast included well-known performers like Hira Mani, Usama Khan, Amar Khan, and Saba Hameed. However, the writing of the story and the performances of the actors were considered nonsensical, leading to significant backlash. As a result, the drama failed to meet the expectations that viewers had for a collaboration between Khalil ur Rehman Qamar and Haseeb Hassan.
