Following his death, Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan funeral took place in Mumbai today. The veteran actor who had earned a massive fan following for himself owing to his amazing film trajectory was laid to rest in Mumbai by his close friends and family.
Khan had been admitted to the intensive care unit of Mumbai’s Kokilaben hospital on Tuesday with a colon infection. Rather than getting better the actor’s health deteriorated and on Wednesday morning a statement was released confirming his death.
In 2018 Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, neuroendocrine tumour. The actor however, recovered after extensive treatment in London and returned to India to shoot Angrezi Medium, his last film.
Irrfan Khan was born in 1966 in Jaipur and was named Saahabzaade Irfan Ali Khan. Khan’s father was a tyre seller. After failing as a crickter, Irrfan Khan joined a drama school to learn acting. He landed a small role as a letter writer in Mira Nair’s 1988 Salaam Bombay but still couldn’t find regular work in Bollywood.
Khan’s breakthrough role came in 2002 through the British director Asif Kapadia, whose low budget samurai-esque tale, The Warrior, was shot in India. Irrfan went on to become a global star appearing in a number of Bollywood and Hollywood films including the likes of major productions, Life of Pi and Jurassic Park amongst others.
