Waseem Badami was a front line journalist in the India-Pakistan stand off. He reported everything live and he was the man who announced Operation Buyan Ul Mursoos on television. He has spoken about the operation and the war-like situation that Pakistan encountered due to a hostile neighbour and how celebrities behaved through it all.
Waseem Badami revealed on the ARY podcast that many of our stars were ready to defend the country on every platform. A superstar like Fahad Mustafa was asking him for updates every second as he was worried about his nation. Humayun Saeed gave a news beeper for Pakistan while his brother was being taken for surgery and he was sitting in the hospital. Behroze Sabzwari and many other people raised their voices openly. But the anchor has wise words for stars who wanted to remain silent through it all.
Waseem Badami said that we should never question anyone’s loyalty or patriotism and he understands that there are stars who do not give any statement about social or political issues. They want to navigate their careers that way but when your country is at war and you remain silent, then that is not the right thing to do. Many Pakistani stars earned respect in India but that respect came because of Pakistan, the country which provided you a platform.
Badami said that yes, our whole nation condemns Pahalgam as we are against the deaths of innocents but the minute India started pointing fingers at us, our stars should reply with an equal voice. You cannot remain neutral in such situations, you need to take a position. We Pakistanis are respectful of life everywhere but you cannot blame us.
