Recently, Mahira Khan appeared in Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast Excuse Me. In the podcast she opened up about her tweet against Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar and the unnecessary criticism by Firdous Jamal.
Talking about Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar, Mahira Khan said, “So, we were never friends, but I did Sadqay Tumhare which was his story, and we did it with love. If you think I did wrong, yes, I did—I should have texted him. He is right; I could have asked him directly, but that was my mistake. What happened was, I was shooting for Neelofar during those days and when I saw this news at 4 a.m., I got shocked because it was all about abuse—he was abusing a woman. For me, it didn’t matter who that woman was. Also, we don’t have the guts to call out bigwigs for fear of losing our jobs. I saw it, I got angry, and I tweeted. It was my mother who told me I was wrong. She said, ‘He was senior; you should have asked him first. And if the next day someone would have questioned you, you could say that you don’t agree with that”. Also, that was one incident, but many incidents of the same sort have been happening. I can’t separate the artist from that man and that’s my stand on it. Yes, I could have handled it differently.”
About Firdous Jamal’s criticism, she said, “Initially, such criticism used to bother me, but not anymore. I don’t know if you remember, during Punjab Nahi Jaungi time, my own fraternity was bashing me. As long as you are successful, people are okay, but if you become super successful, they feel insecure and gang up against you. It happens because they don’t know me.”
