Recently, Mariyam Nafees made an appearance in Samaa TV’s morning show Subh Ka Samaa. In the show, she opened up about Pakistani society’s attitude towards independent and opinionated women like her.
Talking about it, she said, “I would generally say that we live in a patriarchal society where people don’t like independent women. They feel threatened by them. Even now, as we appear on TV, people are probably hating on us, thinking we should be at home cooking for our kids. It’s common in our society for people to dislike opinionated women. Men, in particular, usually don’t appreciate such women. I often hear from men—even so-called modern ones—that I’m “too opinionated.” People constantly taunt us for working in showbiz but if you come on our set and see the environment, we see the most regular worshippers (Namazis) on our sets.
