Floods in Pakistan have caused widespread devastation. Recent cloudbursts in Buner, Swabi, Kashmir, Khushab, and other cities triggered massive flash floods in several areas of Swat. Around 500 people were swept away overnight following the cloudbursts. Heavy rains in Karachi also caused urban flooding, with large parts of the city submerged because of poor drainage. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in the next 24 hours for Sindh and various parts of Punjab.
Overall, more than one thousand people in Pakistan have lost their lives due to floods, around 900 have been injured or missing and over two thousand have been displaced. Infrastructure in Northern Pakistan, Karachi, and Kashmir has been severely affected by the floods, cloudbursts, and landslides.
Pakistani citizens and celebrities are expressing their concern over the devastation and the system’s failure to cope with the heavy rains and cloudbursts. The rains have disrupted many cities, especially Karachi, Swat, Swabi, Peshawar, and Azad Kashmir. Skardu is also facing intense weather conditions.
