Talking about it, Wajahat Rauf said, “Criticism in Pakistan is a relatively new thing. Dramas have been running for 40 years, but we’re only seeing criticism now because of some review shows. Recently, I noticed something. I don’t usually watch these shows, but you can’t avoid Instagram reels—or your mother or wife will show you one. I just want to say: please talk about the story, characters, and direction—if you are knowledgeable enough about direction. If you understand it, then criticize it. I saw one clip where a reviewer was talking about Khaled Anam’s scene in which he was preparing breakfast for his daughter. He said, “The egg got burnt.” The daughter took one bite and left. They discussed it for minutes—asking things like “Who eats a burnt egg? Why did she eat a burnt egg? Do you know anyone who eats a burnt egg?” What are you even talking about in a review show? Bring some calibre into your reviews. No one will mind—including Nabeel, Nadeem, me, or anyone else—if you criticize logically.”
Wajahat Rauf further added, “You can have issues with the story, but saying things like “Why is he wearing these socks? Why is he drinking from an orange cup? Why is she wearing this outfit?”—that’s not meaningful criticism. Talk with calibre if you have the understanding. You shouldn’t be concerned about shirt buttons. If your motive is just to get views, then of course you will talk negatively.” Here is the link to the video:
