Hassan Raheem is a well-known Pakistani singer and songwriter from Gilgit-Baltistan. He is famous for his unique blend of rock and pop music. He became prominent among Gen Z because of his relatable youthful lyrics, music, and modern melodies. Some of his most popular songs include Aisay Kaisay, Joona, Wishes, Maand, and Peechay Hutt, which was also featured in Coke Studio and the Ms. Marvel series. He also gained widespread internet fame for his romantic wedding dances, which made headlines across social media.
Recently, Hassan Rahim gave an interview to BBC UK’s journalist Haroon Rashid. In the interview, he opened up about his insanely viral wedding.
Talking about it, Hassan Rahim said, “Our wedding gave a crash course on Gilgit-Baltistan’s wedding traditions to all of Pakistan—and honestly, to the whole world. I love my mom for that, because she asked me to wear the Shuqa. Of course, I love wearing my cap—the feather on top of the pakol cap is called shati. She told me to wear the Shuqa (traditional jacket). It was my dad’s Shuqa, which had actually been passed down to him from my Nana. It’s a generational garment”
He further added, “I wasn’t expecting people to like it. Our dance is usually for a very niche audience, so I was confused about how people would take it—but then they were like, ‘That’s some good stuff we haven’t seen before.’ I was really surprised that people enjoyed my choreography; that was the fun part of it. I even told my friends, ‘If music doesn’t work out, we’re gonna do this.’
Talking about criticism on showing affection to wife, Hassan Rahim said, “A lot of thoughts came to mind, but I just completely shut them off because I knew I was good at it. If I had started thinking things like, ‘Why should I show affection toward my wife in front of the public?’ it would have looked weird on camera. I was just too happy and wanted to express it. My wedding week was one of the best weeks of my life. It was never the plan to showcase my wedding to the public like this, but my mom asked if I wanted to take phones away from the wedding scene. I responded, ‘I don’t know about others, but our family members would be upset with us—so let it be.’ Here is the link to the video:
