Adeel Afzal is an actor, writer and social media content creator. He received massive fame after the success of his character Nasaaz in the blockbuster drama Parizaad. He played his friend and their bromance is considered iconic. He was also loved for Standup Girl, a show he also wrote. He was a guest on the Rukhsat podcast and spoke about society and things that need to be changed.
Adeel Afzal spoke about why viewers fall in love with the bad boys shown in dramas. This is a phenomenon that has been discussed time and again. We recently saw it in Qarz e Jaan where fans loved Ammar Bakhtiyar more than Barrister Burhan. His drama Parizaad also showed a similar character with Behroze Karim who kills his own wife Laila Saba. Fans had loved Behroze Karim and the aura that he carried.
Adeel Afzal said that it has become a part of our collective psyche that we like a person who has power, who can control and protect. We are taught as a society to admire such a person as he can take control. He gave an example of how people loved violent characters of Sultan Rahi and admired them because he was a larger than life hero who could take action against the status quo. People see hope in such powerful characters. He added that Behroze Karim was a powerful man who people loved because people wanted to be like him with all the money and power in the world. But such characters should be shown with a negative ending and not glorified.
