Amjad Farid Sabri was a prominent Pakistani Qawwal and Naat khawan. Amjad Sabri was born in 1970 and was brutally murdered in Karachi on 22nd June 2016, in the month of Ramadan. He was the son of renowned Qawwal Ghulam Farid Sabri and was the nephew of Maqbool Ahmed Sabri of the famous ‘Sabri Brothers alliance’. Amjad Sabri emerged as one of the most well-known Qawwali singers of South Asia. Now, his son Mujaddid Amjad Sabri is taking up his father and grandfather’s legacy of Qawwali recitation.
Lately, Amjad Sabri’s son spoke to TCM Originals. In his interview with TCM originals, he opened up about hearing the tragic news of his father’s murder.
Talking about father’s murder, he said, “that day, our father left the house for work and we all were playing Ludo in his room because I had a fracture too, after forty minutes, an elderly uncle came to our house and informed us about our father’s murder, he said, ‘Amjad has been killed’, it was a chaotic situation. After a few minutes our house was full of people. Our house and road were jam-packed, we didn’t know where our father was at that time, we were going to the hospitals to take our father, it was a very hard time”. Talking about taking up his legacy, Mujadid said, “I was thirteen when my father passed away, I was quite a shy person who never wanted to be on stage, but after his death I got the love of people, his fans had great expectations from me and that’s why I continued his legacy.
