Bee Gul is among the most successful writers of Pakistani television. She is known for writing hard-hitting stories and touching topics which are considered taboo in society. She has given some of the best scripts with Raqeeb Se, Talkhiyan and Darr Si Jati Hai Sila. She sat down with Adeel Afzal and shared her opinion about content and drama making in an interesting conversation.
Bee Gul had a very interesting take on paradox that exists between television and real norms. She spoke about the heroines dancing in the rain and how this will never ever happen in real life. Amongst the many tropes of Pakistani dramas, a heroine dancing in rain water and hero falling in love with her is pretty common. Bee Gul has an interesting take on it.
Bee Gul said that Pakistani society has always judged intimacy and therefore people grow up with a lot of guilt. Thus at times writers have to objectify women on-screen to show intimacy and this can only be done by a big star because a common woman dancing in the rain on the road will probably get arrested. Women here are so suppressed that they sometimes enjoy objectification. A girl starts liking the idea of a handsome guy falling in love with her while she was dancing in the rain.
