Bushra Ansari is a celebrated Pakistani television star known for her multiple talents, including acting, hosting, comedy, writing, and singing. Her most popular projects include Aangan Terha, Fifty Fifty, Badlon Par Basera, Bilqees Kaur, Udaari, Barat Series, Pardes, Tere Bin, Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, and Very Filmy, among others. Bushra Ansari recently appeared in FYPodcast, hosted by Frieha Altaf. In the podcast, she opened up about her divorce with Iqbal Ansari. She revealed that her husband couldn’t handle her stardom.
Talking about her divorce decision, Bushra Ansari said, “I don’t talk much about him because he was a very intelligent man and an excellent director. You must have heard that he was one of the finest directors at PTV. He had temperamental problems, and there were many issues. Our backgrounds were very different. We are loud and expressive when it comes to love and affection, whereas he wasn’t like that. There were many other things as well like people develop insecurities and complexes—everyone has them, not just us. Living with a prominent woman is not easy. In fact, I wrote a play called Pakeeza. I don’t know if you’ve seen it. It was the story of a successful woman. Aamina Sheikh played the lead. I wrote it. In the final confession, the husband—played by Ali Khan—says something to Adnan Siddiqui’s character, who becomes her second husband after she dies. He confesses, “You have no idea how difficult it is to live with such a famous woman. To make myself feel noticed, I had to mistreat her. She was always in the spotlight, and I was in the background. I had to do all of that just to bring myself into focus. I abused her. And while you adored her, I’ve come to thank you because you allowed me to indulge my chauvinism.
She further added, “Let me make a statement that I often repeat: people are not always bad—they are different. They are fighting their own internal battles. Men have their own struggles too, and sometimes they themselves don’t understand what they are supposed to do.”
She also said, “Actually, I wouldn’t say that I made a good decision or it was a wise decision on my part, and I also don’t say that I am a very intelligent person. Sometimes, you just feel like running away from your problems in life. I was also in the same boat. I don’t know, but somehow things turned out in a way which ended up in divorce. Ours wasn’t the kind of family where my father or mother would say, “Stay in your marriage no matter how much you’re abused.” My father always said, “Never oppress anyone, and never tolerate oppression.” He used to be upset with me, asking, “Why did you endure all this for so many years?” He used to get angry and ask why I didn’t leave. I did try to leave once or twice, but then people stop you. Sometimes you don’t think of divorce because you know no one is standing at your door? I mean, who was standing in front of me? I thought, “Alright, this person is apologizing, so let’s give it another chance and sit down to talk. Iqbal Ansari is a good father. He takes care of the children now, and he really does. In the beginning, I looked after them. Now they are mostly with him. During the early years—the diaper-changing stage—that responsibility was mine. That hard work was mine. But now he is very close to our daughters and our grandchildren.”
