Mehwish Hayat is a versatile, popular and remarkable Pakistani actress who has recently made her comeback to television with the Geo TV prime time drama serial Dayan, after her last appearance in Dillagi, which aired in 2016 on ARY Digital. Dayan is written by Fatima Faizan and Amber Azhar and directed by Siraj Ul Haq. It’s a 7th Sky Entertainment presentation.
In Dayan, Mehwish Hayat portrays the character of Nihal/Misha, a university-going girl who comes from a strict household, particularly due to her extremely rigid, alcoholic and uneducated father, who tortures and abuses her mother and family. The drama viewers were quite excited to see their favourite actor Mehwish Hayat in a drama after a long gap but they got surprised to see her as a university going girl. Many aren’t happy with her character choice. A viewer wrote, “Had they made Mehwish Hayat a lecturer at the university, the story would look more believable”. Another one wrote, “Mehwish Hayat looks senior. In fact, she is too old to play the role of a college student. My God! What happened to the directors” A fan wrote, “Mehwish should stop doing roles of university going young female. She doesn’t look young anymore. No doubt she is a good actress but not made for such a young role”.
