Gulbahar is a new Pakiatani prime time drama series, directed by the acclaimed Mehreen Jabbar and written by Aliya Bukhari. The drama has replaced Zanjeerain, and three episodes have been aired on Hum TV. Gulbahar offers a repetitive storyline where a couple can’t conceive because of an infertile wife, who ends up marrying her husband to another woman for kids.
In a recent episode of Gulbahar on Hum TV, a scene featuring Sanam Saeed reciting tasbih at the hospital without covering her head has sparked strong public backlash. Viewers criticized the portrayal, pointing out that reciting tasbih bareheaded goes against the Islamic norms and that actors and directors should be mindful while filming such scenes. One wrote, “Wow she has a tasbeeh in her hand, she is praying bareheaded, what a way to do ibadat” Another wrote, “Sister, Tasbeeh is always done with your head covered , I don’t know why directors don’t take care of such important details” A drama viewer wrote, “Reciting Tasbeeh without covering head is not alright”.
