Tan Man Neelo Neel is the recently concluded mini-drama on Hum TV. It showed the true reflection of violence in Pakistani society and also shocked the nation with its painful ending. The show made the audience fall in love with each character through its brilliant storytelling and it has reminded the country of so many real-life incidents where innocent victims lost their lives at the hands of angry mobs and no justice was ever served to the aggrieved parties neither any precedent was set for the perpetrators.
We have seen these unfortunate events all over the country and these innocent victims are still awaiting justice. From Sialkot to Peshawar, there are harrowing tales of violence that make our hearts bleed. Tan Man Neelo Neel reminded us of so many such incidents:
Muneeb & Mughees Butt
Muneeb Butt and Mughees Butt were two brothers from Sialkot. In the year 2010 and the time of Ramadan, Pakistan saw its first publicized case of mob lynching. The brothers who were just 15 and 17 years old were beaten up by a mob. Not only were the police officials of the area involved but Rescue 1122 officials were also involved. They ran like we saw Sonu and Moon run in Tan Man Neelo Neel and no one came to these young boys’ rescue.
Priyantha Kumara
Priyantha Kumara is another victim of brutal mob lynching in Sialkot. A man from Sri Lanka who came to Pakistan to work was targeted by his colleagues on false allegations of blasphemy. He was beaten, and mauled and his body was burnt in the end. A citizen tried to help him but he was not able to do so. The pictures and videos of the violence were trending all over social media and the whole nation was in mourning.
Mashal Khan
Mashal Khan was a university student. A young and intellectual mind who was supposed to nurture this nation was brutally mauled in his University’s premises. He was accused falsely of blasphemy and he was beaten to death. He was later once again burnt and his father kept asking for justice. The perpetrators involved in this violence have only faced lengthy trials.
Jaranwala Incident
Another case where a mob burnt the whole Christian community happened in Jaranwala. Once again the police were standing there as the mob kept moving forward. The videos from this incident were shameful for the whole nation and people had to flee their homes in order to survive. Mann Jogi was another drama by Hum TV where this incident was highlighted.
Saba Qamar & Bilal Saeed
Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed worked together on a project. They had to show a Nikkah ceremony and filmed some part inside the Badshahi Mosque. The visuals came out and people thought that the stars were dancing inside the mosque. This was not true at all. But both the stars came under dangerous circumstances. They are safe now.
Kurta Incident
Recently a woman wearing a kurta with Halwa written on it was accused of blasphemy and she was attacked by the mob. She was thankfully rescued by the police but the police made her apologize later on. Not a sight we want to see in our country. A similar scenario occurred in Tan Man Neelo Neel where a clip is wrongfully used by Kami.

Tan Man Neelo Neel is a depiction of many true stories that have happened around us. From famous people to minorities and Muslims who could never even think of committing blasphemy have been falsely accused and beaten to death. We are still awaiting justice for these victims and a stricter policy by law enforcement agencies to stop this from happening. An important drama today reminded us of all the victims who need our voices.
