She was a guest on Fuchsia and spoke about her career, family and life choices.
Dowry is still a very important part of Pakistani weddings. Though the cases of forced dowries have lessened, parents of a girl have to give her enough items to satisfy the egos of the groom’s family and to make sure that their daughter feels “secure” when she shifts to he husband’s house.
Kanwal Khan had something special to share about the dowry practice in her family and it was a refreshing take. She shared that her family as a whole does not give or receive dowry anymore. The girl only takes her essentials with her when she gets married. She went on to say that a man should at least be independent enough to afford his own bedroom set when he is getting married and should not expect the bride to bring it. The girl and her family should wait for the boy to earn basic stuff if he cannot afford it.
