Aymen Saleem is a former Pakistani television actress who rose to fame through the hit Ramadan drama serial Chupke Chupke. She also appeared in Hum TV’s Ibn-e-Hawa and Paristan. Aymen boasts a strong Instagram following of 1.3 million. She got married to Kamran Malik in 2023 and is now the mother of an adorable son.
Recently, Aymen Saleem spoke out about the regressive plots that are constantly shown in Pakistani dramas and their negative impact on young minds. She also stated that current dramas are one of the reasons behind incidents like that of Sana Yousaf.
In her post, Aymen Saleem mentioned Mann Mast Malang’s obscene situation where the main lead Kabir ties his wife Riya with ropes and glorified it as romantic gesture.
Aymen Saleem wrote, “Enough is enough. I’m deeply disturbed by the way a recent drama is portraying abuse—tying up a woman with ropes, showing it in a romantic or bold light, and then normalizing it as part of a love story. This isn’t entertainment; it’s dangerous storytelling. In a country where women already face so much within marriage—patriarchy, emotional and physical abuse, societal pressure—media has the power to either reinforce or challenge toxic norms. Dramas should offer relief, empowerment, and progress, not drag us back into justifying harm in the name of love. We’ve made strides in showcasing strong, self-aware female leads and breaking generational curses—so why are we slipping back? To the writers, producers, channels, and especially the actors: you have influence. People look up to you. Please choose your scripts and stories responsibly. This is not just fiction—this shapes culture.”
She further added, “Just yesterday, I spoke about how our TV dramas romanticize abuse—glorifying control and reinforcing patriarchal mindsets. Today, a young girl has been murdered for simply saying no. This is exactly what I was talking about. A culture that mistakes control for love breeds entitlement—and that entitlement turns violent. My heart goes out to her friends and family. #JusticeForSanaYousaf”
Here is the scene from Mann Mast Malang about which Aymen Saleem mentioned in her post:
Social media users are agreeing with Aymen Saleem and many reported that they have already boycotted Pakistani dramas. A fan wrote, “I have stopped watching Danish Taimoor’s dramas, all his dramas are the same”. Another wrote, “You are right about Pakistani dramas. I started watching Qarz e Jaan but I’m disappointed with Yumna Zaidi’s character who married murderer and rapist”. Many said that the drama content is polluting innocent minds. Another wrote, “Yes. This is the thing! We are introducing voilance in a Suger coated way that every one fantasizes it and implements in his/her own life” Read the comments:
