A few days ago, five-year-old Ayat Noor went missing from Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to police, several suspects were identified in connection with her abduction, and three were arrested. The suspects allegedly confessed to sexually assaulting the child and later disposing of her body. Her body was recovered from a well at a warehouse on University Road after she had been missing for around 15 days. The tragic incident has sparked widespread anger, with many questioning the growing cases of sexual violence against women and children and demanding stronger action against the perpetrators. Several celebrities have also spoken out against the increasing crimes. Mariyam Nafees also shared an emotional video addressing the alarming rise in violence against women and children.
In her video, Mariyam Nafees said, “Today’s hashtag: Ayat Noor, who was gang-raped, murdered, and dumped in a well. Yesterday’s hashtag: a newborn baby who was miraculously recovered alive in a sack. Before that, 45-year-old Hina, who was murdered by her own husband in her own house. Before that, a 20-year-old impaired woman, raped by the police at police station. Before that, the hashtag was 18-month-old Aizal. Is anyone doing anything? No.” Mariyam Nafees broke down in tears while talking about violence against women. Watch her emotional video here.
Netizens are of the view that these hashtags will keep on trending, but no action will be taken against the cruel people who have been involved in such atrocities against women. Another wrote that the government is too busy seeking political revenge against former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to take action against real criminals. Multiple people said that the real crime starts with the lustful gaze of men, and it should be punished immediately.
