Muhammad Ahmed recently appeared in Moneeza Hashmi’s YouTube show Tum Jo Chaho To Suno. In the show, he revealed he got banned on PTV for his first ever script.

Talking to Moneeza Hashmi, Muhammad Ahmed revealed, “Before television, I wrote a stage play for Sheema Kirmani. I gave a script to Sheema. She read it and said, ‘Ahmed, it’s a very well-written script.’ She showed it to Khalid Sahab, who said, ‘The script is trash. It is too black and white. It won’t work on TV.’ They had a debate, but they ended up forwarding it to Ghazanfar Ali. The play you are referring to is the one for which I got banned on PTV. It was my first telefilm, Aurat. It was so bold for its time that PTV sent me a notice stating that Muhammad Ahmed was banned and would not be allowed to write scripts for PTV next time. Instead, it aired on NTM for six consecutive days. At that time, we had extremely capable people in the assembly, and they banned the drama. Even Khalid scolded me, saying, ‘I trusted you and made this play for you, and it got me banned.’ However, after it aired on NTM, it completely changed my trajectory because it became highly successful. I wrote the story of a woman who was driven into a notorious business because of societal pressure, also wrote about Halala. At that time, discussing these things was taboo, but we had a nuanced technique to address it. I have now left writing scripts for TV because I cannot write the kind of content that is currently running on television.” Watch here:
