This week, Musaddiq Malik made headlines after his controversial statements regarding social media users who express their opinion on social media.
He said that the comments section on social media should be turned off completely and people should either skip or consume the content, there should be no way out to express opinion about whatever content they consume. Netizens got angry at his statement and lashed out at him. His fans also didn’t like his take after which the director explained his statement and said that he didn’t say anything about the Meri Zindagi Hai Tu viewers but the bullies who write hate comments on pictures and posts.
Taking it to his Instagram, Musaddiq Malik wrote, “I feel it’s important to clarify this, because a short clip without full context can easily be misunderstood. This conversation was about online bullying and hate comments, and how constant scrutiny in comment sections can deeply affect anyone’s mental health—sometimes with tragic consequences. It was not about drama audiences, genres, YouTube views, or MZHT. I was specifically referring to models, actors, and public figures who are relentlessly judged and targeted online—something many people silently struggle with every day. Comment sections, in general, can be a dangerous space, and this conversation was about awareness, empathy, and responsibility. Words matter. Context matters. And mental health matters.
