Nadeem Baig is a senior Pakistani television and film director known for his hit projects like Barat Series, Pyare Afzal, Mere Paas Tum Ho, Dillagi, Kuch Ankahi, Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Jawani Phir Nahi Aani and others. Nowadays, he is getting praise for directing two most hit film and TV projects Love Guru and Main Manto Nahi Hoon.
Nadeem Baig has recently given a short interview to Omair Alavi for Nukta Life where he opened up about student teacher relationships being shown in Main Manto Nahi Hoon and also compared the odd love stories of old Ptv classics like Dhoop Kinaray and Ankahi.
Talking about it, Nadeem Baig said, “Why can’t Mehmal and Manto be a pair. I think it is something that is considered as a Taboo, or I can say that it is not decent to have a teacher-student relationship but the stories develop where things go against norms. Sometimes, it happens and if something like this happens, people should know how to handle it and we have scene such scenarios in old dramas like Dhoop Kinare where Marina Khan and Rahat Kazmi made a pair but it wasn’t highlighted because there was no social media and YouTube so it didn’t face criticism and people believed. In Ankahi, there was a relationship between a boss and his secretary which is also not so much pleasing according to me but no body talked much about it back then. In Student-Teacher relationship, there is a power dynamic and a teacher can exploit the student through his power and that is why it looks odd but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. I read the script and I immediately knew that criticism will come because it’s not socially acceptable. Here is the link to the video:
