PTV is the oldest channel in the country. There was a time that Pakistanis only had the national channel for entertainment as well as news. All the dramas used to air from PTV and it had the monopoly over all the work in the industry. This also explains the reverence old Pakistani actors and actresses still hold for their old channel. PTV at that time produced great gems and many of the dramas are still loved by the audience.
The channel, however, went through a nose dive as private channels came in and PTV just could not keep up with the demands of the viewers. Some one off events do keep happening and an award show by the name of PTV Icon Awards were held which was attended by the then Prime Minister as well as his old cabinet members.
