Floods in Pakistan have caused severe devastation across all provinces, including KPK, Punjab, Sindh, and Kashmir. Several cities in KPK have been swept away, while Karachi faced extreme traffic jams during the heavy rains. Areas such as Buner, Swabi, Kashmir, and Khushab were also badly affected. Following the rains, India opened the spillways of its dams towards Pakistan, resulting in the flooding of Sialkot city and creating a major threat of further flooding in Punjab and Sindh. In a previous spell of floods, around 500 people lost their lives; however, in the recent spell, many lives were saved due to early warnings. Overall, more than one thousand people in Pakistan have lost their lives due to floods, while around 900 have been reported injured or missing, and over two thousand have been displaced. The country’s infrastructure has also been severely damaged.
In Pakistan, reporters and journalists are constantly updating the public about the dangers of floods. However, in order to capture dramatic footage, many have been risking their lives by reporting from underwater. Several Pakistani reporters and digital creators have gone viral for their dangerous underwater reporting. Here are a few viral videos:
Social media users are quite angry at the irresponsible behaviour of reporters and digital creators. One fan wrote, “You are instructing others to stay at home and you yourself are standing on a bridge which is about to collapse”. Another wrote, “Reporting doesn’t mean to put your life in danger, television is showing everything through the drone images” Another wrote, “The way they are standing in the middle of water, they can anytime die due to electricity current”. Another stated, “If they won’t reporting from underwater, how would they get views”. Read the comments:
