Talking about it, Shagufta Ejaz said, “Nowadays, it has become a fashion and an addiction to assassinate others’ character. It is a disease that increases with time. I was talking to my daughter Nabiha about how backbiting is equal to eating the meat of your dead brother according to the Qur’an. Initially, when you start backbiting, you feel bad about it, but then it becomes a habit, and eventually, you start doing it comfortably. Later, you even begin to justify it and come up with thousands of reasons. People become curious about who got divorced, who reconciled, who separated, or who fought with their spouse. This curiosity is wrong, and Allah has forbidden us from being inquisitive about others. It is a major sin. We should only know what people choose to tell us.
