Two times Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has done it again and this time she is the recipient of The Knight Journalism Award. The award recognizes media personalities whose reporting make a difference. She was one of the two recipients of the award; the other one being Syrian photojournalist Karam Al Masri.
The International Centre for Journalists (ICFJ) recognised Obaid-Chinoy’s decades-long career, which led to legislative change in Pakistan. Due to her documentary on honour killings A Girl In The River a law was passed regarding honour killings. Masri on the other hand was awarded for showing war-stricken Aleppo to the world.
Sharmeen, Al Masri and other winners will be celebrated on November 9 at ICFJ’s Awards Dinner, hosted by CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer in Washington.
