How Amena Khan Got The Role
About getting the chance to play Nudrat Aapa, Amena Khan said, “It’s a character and being an actor you want to play all types of characters. I was referred to the character of Nudrat Aapa by Saife Hassan. He had contacted me for his own serial, but it was already in progress at that time, so he referred this script to me. I agreed to it — though I probably shouldn’t have. Had I read the script beforehand, I would have surely refused. But since I had already agreed, I went ahead with it. It turned out to be an interesting experience; the team was great, and both the writer and director were excellent. The drama addresses real issues faced by women, and Jamaa Taqseem also offers suggestions on how to manage them.”
Nudrat Aapa Character
Talking about her character, she said, “Who is Nudrat Aapa? What’s her background? She is a reflection of her mother, who has never seen anything beyond the household. Nudrat Aapa is the eldest sister and the authority figure at home. She is also her father’s apple of the eye — the only daughter who speaks her parents’ words and acts according to their mindset. The family begins to face conflict after the youngest son’s marriage.” Amena Khan added that her character has a completely negative arc.
Harassment in Jama Taqseem
Talking about the theme of harassment in Jamaa Taqseem, she said, “They have addressed a very sensitive topic in a very thoughtful way. Such things are happening in our society, which is why they are being portrayed. In families like the one shown in Jamaa Taqseem, people often don’t know how to handle such situations. The girl is being neglected, and although the women at home sense that something is wrong with her, they can’t quite figure it out.”
