This year also marks my sixth Ramadan and by God’s grace, I have been fasting every year after entering into Islam. I do observe the 30 days of course unless there is an excuse that permits me to break the fast, such as an illness”

Shahid Afridi and Mushtaq Ahmed are brilliant Pakistani former cricketers who are part of Samaa Tv’s cricket show Zor Ka Jor” as analysts. Both love to share their opinion on Pakistani cricket team’s performance in the international series. Lately, they were part of PSl special transmission of show “Zor Ka Jor”, hosted by Sina Pasha. In a recent episode of the show, both the senior players demanded self censorship on media and social media.
When the host discussed the topic of hooting on Imad Wasim by Babar Azam’s fans, Shahid Afridi said, “The players more often face public hooting like Baber faced, Amir faced and now the same happened to Imad, nowadays, media is everywhere, and social media is another curse on people. Why can’t we see the social media trolls in real life, they never came across me in real life, I have not met with such people in my life”
Mushtaq Ahmed also said, “this is what we teach our kids in this programme that don’t judge players or celebrities on the basis of social media trolling as they are going through a lot of struggles in real life. They have families so we should refrain from negativity. There are a lot of things happening with the people across the globe but we barely see any negative news on international news channels. In Pakistan, we even break the news that stray dogs are drowning into the water, we need to portray positive image of our country, and there should be self censorship”. Here is the link to the video:
Faysal Quraishi is a brilliant Pakistani television actor who has been in the news lately because of his perfect portrayal of character Chinar Khan in Geo TV’s famous drama serial Khaie. The drama is the mega production of Geo TV under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment. Well, The drama has been directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain. It has been written by Saqlain Abbas. Cast also features Durefishan Saleem, Shuja Asad, Khalid Butt, Noor ul hassan, Hina Bayat, Uzma Hassan, Laila Wasti, Osama Tahir, Shamyl Khan, Mahenur Haider, Saba Faysal, Noor Ul Hassan, and Javed Jamal.
Lately, he made an appearance in Green Entertainment’s Ramadan transmission in which he talked about his character Chinar Khan in Khaie.
While addressing the criticism about his character Chinar Khan, Faysal said, “No one is afraid of Chinar Khan in fact I am getting a very positive response, yesterday, someone said to me, ‘I don’t know if I should hate Chinar Khan or should love him’, people are liking it. Actually, in Pakistan we stereotype the characters, a normal perception here is that villain can not be a human, and hero can’t be negative at all, they don’t have a concept of grey characters. I wanted Chinar Khan to be grey, I didn’t want people to hate it. Also, Chinar Khan has that romantic element with him, the credit goes to Saqlain who wrote it so well, also it was well executed. I believe that if a character is built to offend others, he should do that, that’s also the beauty of good acting and storytelling”. Here is what Faysal Quraishi said about Chinar Khan:
In the digital age, Pakistani celebrities exercise more influence than ever because their influence is not limited to the television screens alone. Most of these celebrities influence the public through their carefully crafted social media personas. From glamorous photo shoots to seemingly ideal family moments, their feeds often project an image of perfection that captivates millions of followers. These celebrities struggle with the pressure to maintain an image that resonates with their audience while struggling to preserve authenticity.
The Pressures
The majority of these celebrities feel the need to meet the societal standards of beauty, success, and lifestyle, often sacrificing authenticity in the process. This portrayal of an idealized version of oneself also helps them to stay relevant and commercially viable. The perfect image projected by Pakistani celebrities on social media exerts a powerful influence on their followers as well, shaping perceptions of beauty, success, and happiness. By presenting a lifestyle that often appears effortless and flawless, celebrities inadvertently contribute to a culture of comparison and inadequacy among their audience.
Moreover, the constant scrutiny and competition within the entertainment industry adds to the pressure to project an impeccable online presence. Fans also play a significant role in shaping celebrities’ digital personas, with their adoration and engagement fueling the desire for continued approval and admiration. As a result of this majority of these celebrities feel compelled to cater to fan expectations, feeding into the cycle of perfectionism perpetuated by social media.
Pakistani celebrities are being followed from all around the globe now that Pakistani dramas in particular are being watched globally. Therefore, global trends and standards contribute to these pressures, as celebrities benchmark themselves against their international counterparts and aspire to meet ever-evolving standards of success and desirability. In this environment, the pursuit of an idealized social media presence becomes a matter of personal branding.
Ethical Responsibility
The dilemma faced by Pakistani celebrities extends beyond their struggles with authenticity and societal expectations. It also includes the ethical responsibility they hold in shaping the perceptions and behaviors of their followers. Balancing the desire for success and validation with the moral imperative to promote genuine self-expression and positive mental health outcomes presents a complex challenge.
Social Media Persona, a Façade
Some of these celebrities have been brave enough to talk about these pressures while many others continue to try hard to maintain this perfect digital image. Zara Noor Abbas’ statement in a recent interview summed up how this need to portray an idealized life has become a norm. She also pointed out that this was a mere illusion.
Mental Health Implications
The pressure to maintain a perfect image on social media can and has deeply affected their mental well-being. Numerous Pakistani celebrities have spoken candidly about the detrimental effects of social media trolling on their mental health. Many have even opted to take extended breaks from these platforms in a bid to restore their emotional balance.
However, this particular impact of social media perfection isn’t confined solely to celebrities. For the public, constantly consuming the seemingly flawless lives of these stars can also take a toll on their own mental health. The relentless pursuit of perfection portrayed on social media creates an insidious cycle wherein both celebrities and their followers find themselves trapped.
In this whirlwind of well-crafted content and relentless scrutiny, the quest for social media perfection becomes a double-edged sword, cutting into the mental well-being of both those who project it and those who consume it.
Maintaining a Balance
This makes one wonder if being part of the rat race of showing a perfect image on social media worth it? Even though some Pakistani celebrities opt for authenticity over illusion on these platforms, a significant contingent perpetuating the rat race of maintaining a flawless image remains. Indeed, some also choose to defy the norm and showcase the raw, unfiltered aspects of their lives. These individuals provide a refreshing alternative to the polished facade that dominates much of social media and the good part is that they have a lot of followers as well. Iqra Aziz is one such celebrity who keeps it real and has followers as well.
Yet, for many celebrities, succumbing to the pressure of portraying an idealized version of themselves becomes a full-time activity. They become participants in perpetuating the very culture of perfectionism that takes a toll on their mental well-being. Maintaining a balance is of the utmost importance, particularly when social media is playing such an active role in influencing people. Those celebrities who show glimpses of their realities and not just the picture-perfect images now are getting public approval as well. But then many celebrities who have picture-perfect image on social media are some of the most followed ones on social media.
What Can Be Done?
The explosion of certain celebrities marketing their seemingly flawless images on social media has undeniably created challenges for others in the industry. This culture of perfectionism not only places enormous pressure on individuals to conform to unrealistic standards but also sets a precedent that can be difficult to deviate from. As a result, those who choose authenticity over artificiality often find themselves swimming against the current, struggling to get the same level of attention and endorsement from producers and sponsors.
The fact that producers and sponsors are increasingly drawn to celebrities with large followings on social media adds to the problem. In a competitive industry where visibility and reach are vital, the appeal of partnering with influencers who command a substantial online presence is understandable. However, this preference for social media popularity further increases the pressure on celebrities to maintain a flawless persona, perpetuating the cycle of perfectionism.
Moreover, the followers play a significant role in enabling the culture of perfection on social media. By engaging with and endorsing the idealized images presented by their favorite celebrities, followers unconsciously contribute to the normalization of unrealistic beauty standards and lifestyles. This endorsement reinforces the notion that perfection is not only attainable but desirable, further complicating the already complex dynamics of celebrity culture in the digital age.
In short, the convergence of celebrity marketing, sponsor preferences, and follower endorsements has created a web of unconstrained expectations and pressures that have invaded the entertainment industry. These celebrities wield great influence on social media platforms, making it important for them to exercise a heightened sense of responsibility in their actions and interactions. With countless individuals looking up to them as role models, the impact of their online presence extends far beyond entertainment. Therefore, celebrities must be mindful of the messages they convey and the behaviors they exhibit, recognizing the influence they hold over their followers.
By exercising greater caution and accountability in their online conduct, these public figures can help shape a more positive and constructive digital environment for their impressionable audience. And in doing so, they make life easier for their colleagues who would much rather not be a part of the rat race.

Introducing a groundbreaking Ramadan Drama Serial on MUN TV: Tawakkal.
For the very first time in Pakistani television history, MUN TV proudly presents Tawakkal, a Ramadan-themed drama series that delves deep into the heart of serious societal issues while exploring themes of poverty, faith, and resilience in the face of adversity.
Set against the backdrop of the holy month of Ramadan, Tawakkal takes viewers on an emotional journey as a family grapples with an array of challenges. At the center of the storyline is Nafeesa, portrayed by the talented Farah Ali, a devoted homemaker compelled to step up and provide for her family after her husband, Salman (played by Atif Rathore), is tragically disabled in an accident.
As Nafeesa struggles to navigate the complexities of life, she finds herself faced with an unexpected offer of help from Shakir, played by the versatile Syed Qamar Raza. However, beneath Shakir’s seemingly altruistic façade lies a darker intention, as he seeks to exploit Nafeesa’s vulnerability for his own gain.
Throughout the drama, Nafeesa’s unwavering faith in God serves as a guiding light in the midst of darkness. Her reliance on the protection and mercy of the Almighty is not only a source of strength but also a testament to the power of spirituality in the face of adversity.
Tawakkal airs every day during Ramadan at 7:25 PM, immediately following Iftari, offering viewers a thought-provoking exploration of faith, resilience, and the harsh realities of society. Through its compelling narrative and powerful performances, the drama sheds light on the dual nature of human existence during Ramadan, where the influence of evil persists despite the supposed confinement of the devil.
As viewers tune in to Tawakkal, they are invited to reflect on the spiritual significance of seeking refuge in God’s protection, while also confronting the sobering reality of societal wiles represented by characters like Shakir. In a month where the devil is said to be locked up, Tawakkal serves as a poignant reminder that the forces of evil still lurk in the hearts of men, ready to spread their darkness at every opportunity.
Don’t miss out on this captivating drama that challenges perceptions and ignites conversations about faith, morality, and the resilience of the human spirit. Tune in to Tawakkal on MUN TV and embark on a journey of introspection and enlightenment this Ramadan season.
