Two days ago, elections were held across the region, but protests erupted after many people alleged election rigging and demanded protection of what they described as their democratic mandate. The situation escalated after clashes broke out between security forces and demonstrators. Local residents and activists have claimed that police and authorities used force against protesters, with reports circulating on social media alleging that more than 28 Kashmiris have been killed.
