Google loves to pay tributes to legends around the world. And it often dedicates its most famous doodle to the legend, marking their birthdays, anniversaries and special days. In the past, Google has paid tribute to a number of Pakistani legends as well including the late Mehdi Hassan and also Abdul Sattar Edhi to name a few.
Today the world’s biggest search engine, has dedicated its doodle to honor Pakistan’s most favorite and loved, chocolate hero, Waheed Murad, on what would be his 81st birthday.
Waheed Murad, in his time, was considered one of the most influential actors of South Asia. Ruling hearts with his romantic characters, Murad, was given the title of the Chocolate Hero.
Born in Karachi, Waheed Murad, started his film career when he was just 21 years old. He landed in his screen break in 1959 in a cameo role in the film Saathi. From then on, Waheed Murad, is known to have acted in acted in 125 feature films and earned 32 film awards.
Waheed Murad won a number of awards for recognition of his services to the film industry. However, in November 2019, 27 years after his death, the actor was awarded ‘Sitara-e-Imtiaz’, the third-highest honour and civilian award by the State of Pakistan, for his contribution to the entertainment industry.
Waheed Murad, passed away at the ripe age of 45, in the year 1983. The cause of his death, to date, remains a mystery. Whether it was a suicide or a heart attack, an era of films and quality acting ended with Waheed Murad.
