Gul Plaza was an old and popular shopping complex in Karachi, built in the early 1980s. On Saturday, around 10 p.m., a fire broke out in the plaza and quickly engulfed the building from all four sides. Rescue teams arrived at the scene but were unable to contribute effectively due to the intensity of the fire. As the flames continued to escalate, people trapped inside began calling their loved ones for help. Reportedly, a portion of the building also collapsed after being severely damaged by the fire. It has been more than two days since the incident, and around 59 people are still reportedly missing. So far, 14 deaths have been confirmed. A firefighter also lost his life while battling the tragic blaze.
Pakistani celebrities and the public are grieving the human loss caused by the tragedy. Minal Khan, Sajal Aly, Aiman Khan, Nadia Hussain, Hina Tariq, Anmol Baloch, and others shared stories on Instagram, while Mishi Khan, Nida Yasir and Reham Khan recorded videos expressing their grief and protest.
Nida Yasir also expressed heartfelt condolences on the devastating incident. She said that she often used to visit Gul Plaza for her show’s props and equipment. She expressed grief over the loss of human lives in the incident. Watch video here:
