Mahira Khan’s is a name that needs no introduction. The actress has become a global icon, representing Pakistan around the world at various international platforms. Khan recently represented L’Oreal at the Paris Fashion Week and wowed everyone in attendance with her grace and humility.
Considering Mahira Khan’s global popularity, her humble nature and her stature, the actress was recently appointed as the first ever UNHCR goodwill ambassador from Pakistan.
Mahira Khan previously met Afghan refugees at a UNHCR voluntary repatriation centre in Peshawar. Appointed as UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Mahira will speak up for the needs of more than 1.4 million registered Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
“When I look into the eyes of refugees across our country, I see an incredibly strong people filled with hopes and dreams. Like you or me, there is nothing that a refugee can’t do,” Mahira Khan had shared earlier.
Now, after Mahira’s appointment as the ambassador, her parents, Mr and Mrs. Hafeez Khan, received a congratulatory letter from the UN and an emotional Mahira shared her feeling on her social media.
“I received the sweetest letter from UNHCR for my parents. Needless to say it made me extremely emotional. My Ama was crying and my Aba was smiling his biggest smile. Sometimes I forget that I have been chosen to be put in the position that I am in, given the platform I have been given and the kind of love that I receive. I hope and pray that I can always always uphold the responsibility I have been given by my country, my fans and my loved ones inshAllah,” wrote Mahira on her Instagram.
What is endearing is that the Raees star signed off the post as “Daughter of Mr and Mrs. Hafeez R. Khan,” a proud moment for Khan’s parents indeed.
