Momina Iqbal and Saqib Chadhar made headlines in May 2026 when Momina Iqbal informed her fans that she was facing harassment from PML-N politician Saqib Chadhar. Further investigations revealed that they had been in a live-in relationship for four years. Reports suggested that Saqib Chadhar was unable to move on from the relationship and was allegedly threatening Momina Iqbal while also demanding that she repay the money he had spent on her during their time together.
Recently, while speaking to Discover Pakistan TV, Mufti Qavi defended the live-in relationship between Saqib Chadhar and Momina Iqbal, even comparing their mutual consent to “Aijab-o-Qabul,” which signifies a Nikah (marriage contract).
Mufti Qavi said, “I consider Saqib Chadhar to be a very fine person. As for Momina Iqbal, I absolutely do not care about the statements of any mullah—whether he is Badri, Madni, or whoever he may be. Even using a word like ‘devilish’ is inappropriate. What does my Islam say? If a sane man and a sane woman have been living together for four to five years, traveling together on flights, returning together, staying in the same room, and residing in the same place, then, according to my understanding of jurisprudence, it is a matter between two adults who know what they are doing. This, too, is a form of Aijab-o-Qabul. Living together itself reflects offer and acceptance. It is like saying, ‘You invited me, and I accepted and came here.’ Consent was established, wasn’t it? If a gentleman and a lady have been living together for nearly five years, then consent is already present, based on the jurisprudence I have studied—and I hope Nasir Madni Sahib and other scholars read it as well. If I were told that a Muslim man and a practicing Muslim woman were living together in a house, waking up together, sitting together, and traveling together, and I was asked whether they should be raided, my answer—and anyone else’s answer—would be ‘No.’ Both are Muslims who know what is right and wrong. They understand what Islam is and what faith is. Since everyone watches my show, I am choosing my words carefully. They know what immorality and misconduct are.” He further said that the increasing prevalence of red-light activities and sexual misconduct in the country needs to be eradicated by those in power.”
