Pakistan’s Official Submission to 2017 Oscars Turns Out to be “Mah-E-Mir”

The film Mah-e-Mir is shortlisted by the Pakistan’s Academy Selection as the nation’s official submission for consideration in the Best Foreign Language Film Award category at the 89th Academy Awards.
The film was not a big hit at the local cinemas but it won critical acclaim from not being a run-of-the-mill Pakistani film.

Mah-e-Mir star cast includes Iman Ali, Sanam Saeed, Alyy Khan and Manzar Sehbai.The film is written by Sarmad Sehbai. The setting of the film Mah-e-Mir is of contemporary times. The film is mainly about the life of a young poet who suffers due to poverty and separation from the one he has fallen in love with. Due to that he is driven to madness and that is when he discovers the famous Urdu poet Mir Taqi Mir.
Mah-e-Mir was shortlisted through secret balloting by committee members including Iram Parveen Bilal, Zeba Bakhtiar, Adnan Siddiqui, Hasan Zaidi, Sheema Kermani, Sarmad Khoosat, Jamshed Mahmood Raza, Jamil Dehlavi and Adnan Sarwar and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Chinoy chairs over the committee.

In 2013, the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee selected Zinda Bhaag , in 2014 it was Dukhtar in and in 2015 it was Moor. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will choose the final nominees for all award categories in January 2016.
