Shahood Alvi is a celebrated Pakistani television actor and director who began his showbiz career as a boom operator at PTV alongside his uncle, Iqbal Ansari. He later transitioned into acting and established himself as a phenomenal performer. His notable dramas include Makan, Bol Meri Machli, Meri Adhoori Mohabbat, Mera Saaein, Dunk, Nanhi, Meri Beti, Ghisi Piti Mohabbat, and Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha. Shahood Alvi is married to Saima Shahood, and the couple has three daughters, Areeba, Sajal, and Areeja, who are now married.
Shahood Alvi frequently appears on Good Morning Pakistan, particularly when the discussion revolves around relationships between husbands and wives. Today, he once again appeared on the show alongside actresses Leyla Zuberi and Fahima Awan, where he made several remarks about housewives that sparked controversy.
While discussing situations in which husbands lose interest in their wives, Shahood Alvi suggested that women who spend most of their time at home may smell of cooking ingredients such as ginger and garlic, while men at the office are surrounded by women wearing perfume. He said, “Most of the time women stink with the smell of ginger and garlic when husband [is] at home, while in office he is surrounded with girls wearing perfumes. Adrak aur lehsan ki boo aaye gi biwi se to kaun dekhe? Office mein larkiyan perfume laga kar baithi hoti hain.”
Shahood Alvi also made a slip of the tongue while discussing whether women should seek therapy for relationship issues. On the therapy advice by Fahima Awan, Shahood said, “What if the therapist sets your wife or takes her away from you? Psychiatrist ke paas mat bhejna, agar woh biwi ko le kar bhaag gaya to”. During the discussion, Shahood Alvi further stated that if a husband spends excessive time on his phone, it is not a positive sign, and women should make an extra effort to attract their husbands, including preparing their favourite food and getting ready before they return home.
Leyla Zuberi also shared her perspective, saying that women getting ready for their husbands has traditionally been considered a positive gesture. Recalling her own childhood, she said that she remembered her mother applying lipstick before her father came home. Fahima Awan also agreed that women can make an extra effort to look presentable before their husbands arrive.
Shahood Alvi went on to discuss the responsibilities he had tried to teach his wife, including paying bills, grocery shopping, and driving. He said that despite his efforts, she did not learn these skills and jokingly described her as a “dheet haddi” (stubborn soul). He further revealed that Bushra Ansari had advised his wife against learning to drive, saying that, according to her, driving could add more responsibilities to housewives, such as picking up and dropping children at school.
