Pakistani dramas are watched all over the globe where people can understand Urdu. The true to life stories, non-glamourized characters and very good looking actors and actresses attract the audience to Pakistani dramas. In recent times, we have seen many Pakistani stars getting global recognition after their dramas became hits. Hania Aamir, Wahaj Ali, Yumna Zaidi, Bilal Abbas Khan and Durefishan Saleem are a few examples of young stars getting millions of followers after their dramas became blockbusters. The most important factor that brings the audience especially younger viewers to the screens is the on-screen pairing. A good on-screen couple makes people forget and forgive any shortcomings in the story, direction or screenplay. We get some good on-screen jodis every season and recently these were the couples that ruled the Pakistani drama landscape:
Shibra And Shahmeer – Ishq Murshid
Ishq Murshid was a mega blockbuster for Hum TV. The drama falls into a roma-com and fantasy category but it was such a big hit that the makers dragged it needlessly and even screened the last episode in cinemas. The primary reason for Ishq Murshid’s success was the chemistry between Bilal Abbas Khan’s Fazal Bakhsh/Shahmeer Sikandar and Durefishan Saleem’s Shibra Sulaiman. The chemistry was so magical that many people want to see them together in real life as well. For sure the biggest on-screen hit pairing since Mere Humsafar, Shibra and Shahmeer from Ishq Murshid.
Mahnoor And Shahram – Jaan e Jahan
Mahnoor and Shahram played by Ayeza Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi in the recently concluded Jaan e Jahan finally became a treat for Ayeza and Hamza fans who were waiting since Pyare Afzal. The fans waited for 10 years for this duo to get together on screen where no one dies and it finally happened with a magical wedding in Jaan e Jahan. For sure, another hit on-screen couple this season.
Gulzaib And Tabraiz – Jaan e Jahan
Another Jaan e Jahan pairing that was not to be a couple actually became the most loved couple on the show. People loved both Nawal Saeed and Haris Waheed as Gulzaib and Tabraiz. The best part about these two actors bringing their ace work was that people actually wanted them together more than Mahnoor and Shahram despite the story line that should have made people see them running apart as far as they could. A recent favourite for fans and surely a pairing suggestion for producers.
Zamda And Chinar Khan – Khaie
Khaie was a surprise hit as makers and actors were both worried if such a gorry story will work on television or not. It was not only a smashing hit but also gave the world another villain-heroine combo that became insanely popular. We all knew where the story was heading and yes, only one among the two will live but people still love the wavelength Zamda and Chinar had despite how black Chinar Khan’s character was.
Apanna And Barlas – Khaie
Apanna and Barlas from Khaie is another young on-screen couple that took the viewers by storm. People loved them from the very start and cried for them when Barlas got killed. Their powerful chemistry overshadowed all the shady dealings of Barlas Khan’s character and fans just loved Apanna and Barlas played by Mahenur Haider and Shuja Asad in Khaie.
Barbeena And Haji Mushtaq – Kabli Pulao
This story was not meant to become as famous as it actually became. It once again showed the world how a good script is the key. A couple with such a huge age difference ended up becoming everyone’s sweetheart. Mohammad Ehteshamuddin and Sabeen Farooq were phenomenal. Everyone was rooting for their love and this on-screen couple showed how subtle love is as powerful as a star-plusie dhishoom-dhishoom one.
Annie And Fakhir – Mayi Ri
Annie and Fakhir in Mayi Ri played by young stars Aina Asif and Samar Jafri made them overnight sensations. The drama though made on a sensitive topic became a smashing hit and people were in love with Annie and Fakhir. There is still hue and cry about the ending this on-screen couple got as fans just loved to see them together.
Natasha And Sherry – Jaisay Aapki Marzi
Yes they were not paired as hero and heroine but Natasha and Sherry played by Kiran Malik and Mikaal Zulfiqar are one of the best duos on Pakistani television. Their sibling bond showed on-screen and this brother-sister duo from hell can take down anyone within minutes. Jaisay Aapki Marzi was a mega hit because of these two and the poison they brought together on-screen. Surely, one of the best on-screen pairings of actors in the last year or so.
Zara And Kabir – Standup Girl
Standup Girl was an out of the box drama and all the actors were out of their usual characters. Same is true for the leads Zara and Kabir played by Zara Noor Abbas and Danyal Zafar. The unconventional casting worked wonders as they both fit into the characters and they both brought a lightness and comfort in their chemistry on-screen.
Hajra And Sultan – Akhara
A love bound with tragedy. Hajra and Sultan played by Srha Asghar and Faraz Farooqui were a couple who could not meet yet their love and chemistry was stronger than all the other couples around them. Despite limited screen time, they both made a place in the hearts of fans and the second Hajra was left a widow while Sultan passed away was a shock many Akhara fans could not recover from.
