Maalik (مالک) is an Urdu film released on the 8th April 2016 throughout the country. The film was given the censor certificates by all three censor boards i.e. Punjab Board of Film Censor (PBFC), Sindh Board of Film Censor (SBFC) and Central Board of Film Censor (CBFC).
After three weeks of screening the Sindh government has declared a ban on the movie throughout the province yesterday but revoked the ban within hours. Today the federal government has issued a notification declaring the a ban on the film throughout Pakistan.
The Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, and National Heritage issued a notification declaring the Urdu feature film “uncertified” according to Section 9 of the Motion Pictures Ordinance, 1979.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party has also criticized the film via a tweet
The ban on the film started two popular trends on Twitter with the hashtags #BanMaalik and #IStandWithMaalik.
