Waar has recently hit Box Office collection of 17 crore within 18 days of its release, and a success party was held in Lahore a few days back. It is produced and written by Hasan Waqas Rana and directed by Bilal Lashari. Its cast includes popular names like Shaan, Shamoon Abbasi, Meesha Shafi, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Ayesha Khan and Ali Azmat. The storyline focuses on the terrorism in Pakistan and also highlighted the attack on police academy at Lahore in 2009.
Waar has beaten all the previous records and it was a proud moment for its director, producers and actors to be associated with such a movie. It took a span of 3 years for the movie to be completed and had a budget of 2 million dollars. Shaan stated that his dream has been fulfilled and he was not expecting the movie to make such records. The producer Hassan Waqas Rana intends to release the movie very soon in more than 20 countries, and right now they are busy signing deals with distributors. Its current distributors in Pakistan are ARY films and Mandvivalla Entertainment. The director Bilal Lashara has stated, “We are now looking at the film being released internationally so that it reaches out to a larger set of audience and its true worth is seen”
Waar opened on the first day of Eid-ul-Adha in 34 cinemas and 52 screens all over Pakistan. It earned 11.4 million in its first day of opening, thus breaking the record of the Indian movie, Chennai Express who had a record of 9 million.
Bilal Lashari, on being asked whether the movie would be released in India has stated that “I am hopeful that happens. I don’t see any reason why that should be a problem. We are in talks with distributors internationally” India has highly criticized the movie because of its supposed anti-Indian content and many Pakistanis has also criticized the movie for creating propaganda. Bilal has clarified this by stating that “The film has a lot to tell on its own then focus on some agenda or propaganda. I am willing to make a few adjustments to the copy that reaches Indian”. It is expected that Waar may be editedheavily if it makes it to India, with Censors coming tough on it.
The movie has earned the highest revenue in Karachi so far. Neuplex cinema ranked number one with an earnings of 1 crore 57 lakh, followed by Atrium Cinema and Cineplex who did 1 crore 40 lakhs and 1 crore 27 lakhs respectively. In Lahore Sunny star did the highest business with 1 crore 25 lakhs. In Islamabad Centaurus Cineplex did business of approximately 97 lakhs. These statistics were taken a few days back, and the number has increased much more than this now.
In the success party, the actors, producer and director all gave speeches and expressed their happiness at the success of this film, this was followed by a lavish cake cutting ceremony.
