Jawad Ahmed is a famous Pakistani pop and Bhangra singer as well as a politician, known for his hit songs like Bin Tere, Oh Kehndi Ae Sayyan, Mehendi, Uchia Majaajan Wali, and many others. He is also very popular because of his controversial political views. Nowadays, Jawad Ahmed is away from music as he is focusing on his political party, Barabri Party, but he often gives interviews where he talks about music, musicians, and his colleagues.

Recently, Jawad Ahmed appeared in an interview with RNN News, hosted by Maryam Imam, where he criticized late Pakistani singer Junaid Jamshed’s decision to leave music for Islam.

Talking about it, Jawad Ahmed said, “Junaid Jamshed’s most popular song was Dil Dil Pakistan, which was headed by Shoaib Mansoor. They were among the first to appear on TV like pop stars. He earned crores from that song, and had it been released today, he would have earned billions. All of a sudden, he changed track, left music, and became a tableeghi. You all know how orthodox the tableeghi jamaats and Islamic groups are. Now, coming to the main point—not only did he leave music, but he also held a press conference announcing that he was leaving music because it is haram (forbidden in Islam), and he wanted all his friends to leave it too. One of our producer friends, Mohsin Jaffar from PTV, asked him, ‘You have earned your entire life from music, built properties, and even opened the clothing business J. from music money, and now you are saying it is haram?’ Junaid was speechless. His face turned red, he got angry and said that he had taken a fatwa stating that once you repent, it becomes halal. Now people call him a hero because he left music, but at the same time, they still listen to his songs which can be sinful for Junaid Jamshed. So, one should not be so rigid with religious beliefs. Religion should be kept personal. In this country, it is already difficult to pursue music with respect.” Here is the link to the video:
