Sehra Main Safar – Episode 20!

Ohkay so, I enjoyed watching this episode because for a change it was good to see a male nagger in a drama. The writer really has pushed the boundaries here because usually we get to see the wives doing all the nagging but it was good that this time around, that responsibility was taken over by a ‘man’ of the house.

I will speak about the events that took place in this episode first but will share my thoughts about everything later on. Iqra feels that she has to provide the best for her kids, that’s why she is ready to go out of the way to achieve what she dreams of for her children. It was made obvious that just like all the other kids, her kids always look upto that cousin who’s got the things that they don’t have. Iqra’s kids wanted an iPad because Nuzhat’s kid Faizan had it. It was told that Iqra’s son demands all the things that he sees in Faizan’s possession. I am speaking about this fact in detail because it has a relation with the choice of school that Iqra made for her kids. Iqra knows that she can not provide everything to her kids, yet she chooses to get them admitted to the school that probably is attended by the kids of the wealthy families, so how did Iqra; being an educated woman herself actually think of it as a great idea because as far as I can see, kids don’t only get education in the school & a lot of other factors affect the way the kids’ personality shape up too. So, when her kids were already quite demanding just when they had Faizan around them, how will she keep up with their demands when her kids will be surrounded by so many kids who will speak about all the things they have & the foreign trips that their parents took because going by all the questions that the principal asked, it was quite obvious that the principal was used to meeting the parents who could afford a certain kind of a lifestyle. Also, I find it funny that Iqra’s husband & Iqra’s father are a part of the education field, yet their say didn’t matter at all & she didn’t bother knowing what they honestly felt. Just because Faizan attended that school, Iqra had to make sure that her kids attended the same school too. Yes, every mother wants what is best for her children & there is nothing wrong in earning money for that too but is it really worth putting yourself & your husband in a financial pressure for the rest of your life, I don’t think so. Also, I do believe that the schools with the normal fee also produce top-notch students as well as their parents play their part too & don’t only rely on the school to do all the teaching!

So, Shazia showed up once again as a messenger sent by the writer towards Iqra. It is funny that Iqra listens to Shazia’s suggestions like they are best of friends, still they are never shown to be in contact & only come across one another when Shazia has to extend her (or the writer’s) two cents on Iqra’s life. Shazia showed up when Iqra was having a hard time at her parent’s house, Shazia showed up when Iqra was having troubles with Shehryaar & once again, Shazia showed up when Iqra was having a hard time because of Ayaaz being too ghairat-mand. So, Shazia said all the things that Iqra wanted to hear & made her realize that she can earn a great amount of money for the sake of getting her children educated & Iqra took her advice to her heart as this is what she was hoping for. Iqra found a job & voila, her husband turned into a nagger that we all usually hate!

So, Ayaaz was having a trouble finding his ‘patloon’ & he was furious because his shirt wasn’t ironed properly. Ayaaz also burnt his hand while pouring tea from the sauce pan whereas as far as I remember, his mother never really made tea herself as she loved the tea that Ayaaz used to make. I guess ever since his mother passed away, Ayaaz ran out of practice & forgot how a tea is poured from the sauce pan into the cup, what an ordeal I must say, Ayaaz ka jalla hua haath dekh ke meri ankhon mai aanso hi aa gaye. Well, looks like I wasn’t the only one crying there because Iqra was disheartened too at the hissy fit that her nagging hubby threw & then I wiped my tears & started questioning again – what is the purpose of showing us all this? Like seriously, what are they trying to show here?

We have seen it all. Iqra went from being good to bad when she started working & the writer made a point to punish her because she got independent as a working woman highlighting the fact that all the working women tend to become bitter & rude like Iqra & are supposed to be punished by the karma. Anyways, Iqra was shown to be making a point to insult her parents every single time as she wanted them to know that she was the one doing all the earnings & in that phase of her life, she was unhappy. Then Iqra met this guy who was over-enthusiastic about her doing a job & she was yet again at an unhappy place. Now, she met this amazing soft-spoken sugar syrup Ayaaz who isn’t thrilled by her decision of doing a job & looks like the way things are progressing, everything will make Iqra unhappy once again, so my point is, why is the writer bent on showing Iqra as a working woman when the job has only brought misery & sorrow in her life? Also, I do get that may be this is the writer’s way of showing that a girl can do anything if she puts her heart & soul into it, but then why show such a girl in such a bad situation time & again the moment she starts working & making money? This is something that I am unable to comprehend. The preview left me feeling disgusted that Ayaaz will grow even more insecure when he will see Iqra achieving all the things that a guy like Ayaaz can only dream of. My point is, if this is what the writer has chosen for Iqra, then why can’t she show it in a good way? Like If the writer wants to show that a girl can do anything then she should’ve shown that a girl like Iqra ended up convincing her husband & made him become someone who was super supportive of her decisions & didn’t think of his patloon as a priority? If the writer wanted to show that a girl chose to finally empower herself for the sake of her children’s better future, then why a husband is been turned into this negative nagger who is unhappy with what his wife is doing for the sake of their family?

I also believe that the writer ended Iqra’s MIL’s character at a wrong time. If I look back, I see no purpose of Ayaaz’s mother’s character at all & it is amusing that now when she has died, I am speaking about her as she finally had a purpose to serve but she chose to end her association with Sehra Main Safar. The writer could’ve shown that Ayaaz’s mother supported Iqra’s decision & made her son realize that his wife was doing everything for the sake of her family. Also, Ayaaz’s mother could’ve helped with the household chores too & that way Ayaaz would’ve found his patloon & shirt on the hanger that too in a washed & ironed condition. It is funny that now when the character has died, I am thinking about the possibilities of how her character could’ve been put to good use. Also, all this while, we were under the impression that Ayaaz was the only unlucky & unemployed guy of Pakistan but his conversation with his friend shocked me. The things that Ayaaz’s friend said actually suggested that Ayaaz chose not to further educate himself & he got settled at how much money he was making. Also, Ayaaz said ‘app ke apne app ko waise rehne nahi dete jaisa app chahte ho’ so I am sorry to say but this thing made me laugh out loud at his mentality. What does Ayaaz think, that just because his wife reminds him of his responsibilities & just because he hurried in growing his family members & is now forced to take care of their expenses, his people are not letting him be a person he always wanted to be? All this while I was under the impression that Ayaaz was a responsible person & his phone call to Iqra before their marriage & that expensive gold bangle as a wedding gift to her went to show that he was ready to take his responsibilities seriously but now it was shown that he was pretty comfortable with how little money he was making & just because the growing expenses put a pressure on him, he felt he wasn’t being allowed to be what he always wanted to be? How does it even make sense? If Ayaaz was such a person who never wanted any sort of growth; whether it was financial growth or career growth or anything then the first thing he should have avoided should have been the family growth!!!

It was shown time & again that Iqra’s parents were quite conscious of how little money Ayaaz made, so why are they out of the picture now? Why aren’t they seen questioning Iqra with concern as to what sort of a life she is leading with Ayaaz? Also, why wasn’t Iqra’s father shown to be insistent on the fact that Ayaaz should work with him in his academy, that way at least Ayaaz would’ve made some decent amount of money as the academy was supposedly doing really well? Also, as far as I remember, they showed that Iqra & Ayaaz’s first born was a boy, so from where did Aqsa as an eldest child pop up? Also, Ayaaz’s student was the same boy when Ayaaz’s kids were small & Ayaaz was told to buy the pampers & he was depending on the fee from that student’s mother but she wasn’t at home, I guess Ayaaz’s children grew up but his student chose not to. Anyways, let’s see how much Ayaaz’s nagging is left for us to see & laugh at. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sehra Main Safar & once again, if you have understood the purpose of this drama & the never ending misery & bad luck that Iqra’s job brings to her, then do let me know too!
