Iqra Aziz is one of the biggest names in the Pakistani drama industry. She is at that stage where she has proved her mettle as an actress but she continues to surprise her fans and drama viewers with her acting skills in every single drama that airs one after the other. Iqra Aziz joined the drama industry at a very young age but she did not let her age define her or her caliber as an actor. She is one such actress who makes sure that all the characters she takes are substantial and leave a long-lasting impression on the mind of the viewers.
Iqra Aziz has worked in one super hit drama after another, therefore it becomes a done deal for her fans to anticipate as well as expect that every drama of hers is going to be different and interesting because she is a part of the project. Currently, Iqra Aziz is seen in Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 as Mahi. The popularity of Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 is unparalleled and it is garnering a lot of viewership with each passing episode. Iqra Aziz always makes sure to keep her portrayal as realistic as possible when it comes to styling and overall get-up of the characters. However, it won’t be wrong to say that she has looked stunning in Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 and has given Mahi the kind of appearance that suits her character and her dynamic perfectly. Each and every look of Iqra Aziz is beautiful and the credit goes to the wardrobe designers, stylists, and makeup artists for making her look drop-dead gorgeous in every single frame.
The wardrobe of Mahi is elaborate and even in the scenes where she is at her home or has just come back from the university, her clothing is just perfect. It goes to show that she is not only well dressed but comes from a very affluent family, therefore dressing in this manner comes naturally to her. Her jewelry pieces are delicate but complement her outfits. Mahi’s clothing so far can be categorized as per the phases of the story that have unfolded so far. She dressed up to attend her best friend’s wedding. Apart from the wedding of Rida, she was seen wearing some of the amazing outfits at her place too, which looked justified considering she was a guest at Rida’s place and was visiting Lahore for her friend’s wedding. Then Mahi has also dressed beautifully for her own wedding festivities and some of the sequences in between.
Here are the beautiful looks and outfits of Iqra Aziz from the drama serial Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3:
Mahi’s Daily Wear
This set of outfits were a mix of traditional and semi-formal clothes. Although a girl of Mahi’s age may not wear these clothes on a daily basis because Mahi is the youngest child of her family and she comes from a wealthy family, these kinds of outfits went perfectly well with the dynamic of her character. All the outfits seem to be carefully designed to enhance her personality a lot more. Another aspect that makes her simplest of looks so fine and glamorous is the choice of hairstyling and makeup that has been carried by Iqra Aziz. Her hair is always beautifully tamed and makeup looks are natural yet perfectly done, giving her a very elegant and impressive look. It is interesting to note that most of Mahi’s daily wear wardrobe is based on neutral and earthy tones and yellow seems to be her favorite color for sure.
The Formal Wear
Then comes the category of formal wear. She has worn solid colored formal outfits on random yet important occasions so far. The two silhouettes that Iqra Aziz has carried in formal wear are long frocks and flared shirts or simple short shirts with Patiala shalwar. These solid-colored outfits have looked stunning especially because even with the daintiest and simplest of embellishments, these outfits have had a very elegant look.
Mahi’s Looks at Rida’s Pre-Wedding Functions
The wedding of Mahi’s best friend Rida was an elaborate affair with so many functions that took place, which gave Iqra Aziz so many moments to stun her fans and she well and truly did. Each and every look of Iqra Aziz was simply stunning and she looked gorgeous. She not only wore different and elaborate outfits but made sure that her makeup looks were different and complimented the outfits perfectly as well. From whites to blacks to reds and once again orange/yellow tones, all these outfits were simply stunning.
Mahi’s Looks At The Actual Functions of Rida’s Wedding
Iqra Aziz stole the show when she served these looks in Khuda Aur Mohabbat. She made sure to wear some of the leading fashion designers who are known to be the best in the business. Iqra Aziz wore the creations of Faiza Saqlain and it was nice to see some of the unique shades and beautifully embellished bridal wear during these wedding sequences.
The turquoise and silver shirt and gharara were absolutely stunning and Iqra Aziz let the outfit do the talking because she didn’t go for a heavily glamorous makeup look. In the mehndi function, she carried the yellow silver outfit beautifully and had a completely different look due because of the hairstyling. The heavily flared outfit that she wore at Rida’s Baraat was once again designed by Faiza Saqlain and it was a unique shade of beige with silver, maroon and blue embellishment. This was another stunning look of Iqra Aziz that was a winner.
Mahi’s Own Wedding Festivity Looks
Mahi has carried four different looks for her own wedding. The first one was when her proposal got approved, the second one being the mayoun function, the third one was her mehndi and the fourth and probably the last one is her wedding look.
The beautiful blue outfit that Mahi wore during the proposal sequence is another stunning creation of Faiza Saqlain. A beautiful shade of blue with gorgeous silver embellishment. Iqra Aziz was nothing short of a vision in this particular scene because this shade of blue complimented her and her hair and makeup were just perfect.
The mayoun look of Mahi was comparatively simple but the dupatta that she draped around was simply stunning. It was a traditional mayoun dupatta with a lot of gota work and she carried it over a plain solid colored shalwar kameez.
Although the mehndi function wasn’t too elaborate in the drama and Mahi was barely seen wearing this outfit, thanks to social media the pictures of it were circulated. Iqra Aziz wore this beautiful creation of Nomi Ansari for the mehndi function of Mahi. A beautiful colorful number with designs and embellishments to die for.
This look of Iqra Aziz has trended all over social media the moment this episode went on air. This has to be one of the best bridal looks ever seen in a Pakistani drama of all time. Iqra Aziz looked absolutely gorgeous and the dress was by SFK Bridals, a fashion label run by Sadaf Fawad Khan. A stunning red, gold, and orange combination with beautiful patterns. Iqra Aziz’s hair and makeup were done in a way that enhanced her beauty a lot more and she looked simply gorgeous.
This completes the list of beautiful outfits worn by Iqra Aziz in Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3. Which one of these looks and outfits has been your favorite? Feel free to share your opinion in the comment section below.

The students didn’t get any calm even after that and are still bugging the actress on her Instagram account. They are saying Tara to do some ace acting infront of Shafqat Mehmood so that he may grant some more leaves to students.
Here we have gathered all the comments for you in which students are demanding leaves and online exams .
Recently our new government has completed its hundred days. Some days ago finance minister Ishaaq Daar has announced that Pakistan is getting a loan of twelve billion dollars from International Monetary Fund (IMF). While the federal government of PML-N is keeping its policy of begging loans from IMF and other countries of world, government of same party in Punjab has taken a step in different direction. The step is to discourage begging, but its not government begging, its to discourage individuals from begging.
City district government has launched a campaign against beggars, and whoever find begging will be sent to social welfare homes. So far eighty seven (87) beggars have been caught and taken to welfare homes. Going further city government has taken a strange step to include students in this campaign too. Students will convince general public to not to give amount to beggars, but how will they do that. Well here is the planned activity for students.
Students will act as beggars on traffic signals of Lahore. They will beg amount like beggars (faqirs) from general public. But after begging the amount they will return it back, and tell that person giving amount to beggar is not the right thing to do. This way students will raise awareness among general public against beggars. City government thinks by creating awareness in such way eventually there will be a decline in amount given to beggars which eventually will discourage beggars as this field will become less lucrative.
To encourage participation of students, there is cash prize of One lakh for the student with the best performance, second prize is of fifty thousand rupees. So far the institutes participating in this campaign are GC University, University of Education and University of Veterenary and Animal Sciences. Here is the actual news published one day ago.
Do share your thoughts on this campaign and whether this campaign will be successful in achieving its goals or not.
Sara Loren is a talented Pakistani actress, model and dancer, who started her career at a very young age. Sara is one of those actress who has worked in Bollywood as well. Recently, Sara Loren was spotted in “Good Morning Pakistan”.
Sara Loren while talking about the tough time she faced after her father’s death, mentioned that “I’m very determined and I have really worked hard at a very young age. I started taking care of my whole family as my father died when I was only 12 years old. I wanted my family to settle down first because I had a fear in my mind that what if I died during this journey, my family will be all alone. I struggled a lot for my family for almost 12 to 15 years.”
“The reason why I was so close to my mom was that we both faced that tough time in our life when our father was not there for us. My grandmother and grandfather got separated due to which my mother could not meet his father for a long time. The same situation took place in my life when my father died, I was left all alone. That was the point when I connected to my mom so badly and decided to make my mom the happiest person in this world”, added Sara.
Sara Further said that “It was a big loss for me as I could not spend time with him. My father used to say me that if something happens in your life that you can’t tell me in your own words, just write it down on a piece of paper and give to me, so he was a very comfortable person but unfortunately he was not with his daughter when she needed him at her young age.”
Celebrities, like any other individual, go through ups and downs in life but in this article I will highlight the real struggle which they have endured in order to get where they are today. Those celebrities who are now at the top of their game were once rejected by many and also had to struggle for years to get their talent polished as well as acknowledged. Some of our celebrities come from financially stable backgrounds and they started acting as a hobby but there are also those for whom acting or singing was a proper profession without which they could not survive. Obviously, money must and can never be the driving force for an artist but when a person decides to be in this profession and gives it everything he has then surely earning money is just as important as getting recognized.
Once, a celebrity gets recognition and popularity, the money flows in but did you know that many of our top celebrities today had to work for years to perfect their craft and in between they went through serious financial as well as emotional crisis. Some of these performers entered the showbiz industry not only because that was a legacy passed on to them by their parents but also because they had to earn a living for their family through it.
This list contains the names of all those top celebrities who worked hard to get where they are today and fought hard to get this position. And most importantly, these are the celebrities who were brave enough to share their stories with the world. Their stories are heartwarming as well as inspiring.
Imran Ashraf
Imran Ashraf is a true performer who left the viewers in awe of his remarkable performance in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi. He is also an intelligent, level-headed and eloquent individual who has been seen talking about his struggles with complete sincerity ever since he won unprecedented appreciation after Ranjha Ranjha Kardi ended.
Imran Ashraf’s struggle started back in 2011 when his family business shut down. Imran Ashraf shared in an interview that he had already worked once as a child star but returned to the industry in 2011. The first time he gave a performance, it left a lot to be desired. Eventually, what really motivated him to give his acting career more time and effort was when a co-actor misbehaved with him. That is when he decided that he needed to do whatever it took in order to prove himself. This led to years of struggle to improve his accent and dialogue delivery.
Imran Ashraf also mentioned in an interview with Dawn, ” I played a mawali [street thug] in Ab Ke Saawan Barse. At this point I was about to hit rock-bottom — I had no place to live, I had no money, I was living day-to-day”. When he got his first break he arrived on the set with only 30 rupees and not even a decent pair of sandals on his feet. He shared, “I asked him why he was so sure that I could do it. He said because everyone said so. I delivered the two lines and the director asked the make-up guy to puff me up. I had to borrow the DOP’s [Director of Photography’s] sandals and finally did the serial after which a couple more followed.”
Imran Ashraf used his bitter experiences as a source of motivation and even today he thanks those people who told him that he couldn’t do it because they are the ones who pushed him to give his best.
Zahid Ahmed
Zahid Ahmed is also another most sought after actor nowadays but did he get this recognition easily? Well most certainly not! Most of the people who follow him on social media probably already know not just his journey as an actor but also as an individual whose life story is inspiring in every way possible. After being recognized as a well established actor, Zahid Ahmed’s transformation pictures went viral on social media. These pictures got all kind of comments, some people thought that this transformation was shocking while others made fun of him.
The highlight of it all was the manner in which Zahid Ahmed addressed these viral pictures and literally changed the way every single person looked at them. Instead of giving interviews on different platforms or answering questions on social media, he simply wrote down a ‘timeline’ of his own life not to shut down the trolls but to confidently accept his failures and to inspire others. The fact is that Zahid Ahmed did not need to bear his soul but he did just that. This basically showed how confident he was as an individual and in the process he also made sure that everyone out there knew that his transformation was more than that of outer appearance.
Hina Altaf
Hina Altaf started her career as a VJ and then she went on to perform in dramas. Hina Altaf did not open up about the struggles in her personal life for the longest time. These issues in her personal life could have impacted her career in a negative manner which is why her name is also in this list.
Hina Altaf’s outer appearance does not suggest that she has gone through so much but the way she shared a very personal and vulnerable side of her life went to show what a strong person she was. Hina Altaf talked about her mother’s schizophrenia, how difficult it was to live with it, her struggle with depression, the weight gain and how she managed to overcome it all with the help of a professional doctor who also turned out to be a mentor and a friend. Hina Altaf shared in many of her interviews how she used to go to the sets with bruises and acting for her wasn’t a hobby but a full time job since she had to support her family financially too. Hina Altaf fought a battle which was of a private nature but surely making it this far with so much going wrong in your personal life is not easy yet Hina Altaf managed to do just that.
Mohsin Abbas Haider
Mohsin Abbas Haider has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons but the fact remains that he is also one of those celebrities who has struggled a great deal. In his previous interviews, Mohsin Abbas Haider highlighted how his depression made him want to commit suicide. He also mentioned in one of his interviews that all the energy which the viewers saw on screen was actually his way of venting out his frustrations.
Mohsin Abbas Haider shared with Samina Peerzada that he has also been through such a time when he had nothing to eat and when he used to go for the night shift, he was more interested in the lunch box his co-worker brought than his work because sometimes the food he shared with Mohsin was the only meal he had all day. Mohsin Abbas Haider waited for a long time until he got his big break, he lived away from home and his family because he had to make a career in showbiz which was never an easy choice since he was really close to his mother.
Sanam Marvi
Sanam Marvi is a well-known folk and Sufi singer who is considered one of the best in the field. When Sanam Marvi was invited as a guest on Samina Peerzada’s show, she told her heart-wrenching story starting from the time when her father was tragically murdered, how she and her mother did not even have food to eat for days and she also shared in detail how her stepfather worked hard on her and taught her to sing.
Sanam Marvi’s struggle was long but eventually she was rewarded with a good break which changed everything for her. The honest manner in which Sanam shared every little detail shows that she is not embarrassed of her past but has in fact embraced it and is using her past experiences to shape up her present and future life.
Agha Ali
Agha Ali is a singer and an actor who has a huge fan following. Agha Ali is also one of those few celebrities who do not believe in keeping their personal life private. In several interviews Agha Ali talked about how he has been fighting with Psoriasis, an incurable skin disease which was once so bad that he was all by himself for eight months. The timing was also not in Agha Ali’s favor because this was also the time when he had just started his showbiz career.
Agha Ali isn’t just a young man following his passion but he is also a responsible adult who runs his house and takes care of his family. His real life story is very different from the characters we see him playing on screen. Fighting such a disease, being the head of the family at such a young age and still making a name in an industry with so much competition isn’t easy but Agha Ali has and is doing just that!
Kudos to all these celebrities for not giving up and making it this far. Do share your views and more inspiring celebrity stories with us in the comments section.

Amna Ilyas is remarkably talented Pakistani model. Her beautiful dusky complexion makes her distinguished among all the models & actresses. She definitely looks hot due to her pretty complexion. Later on, she also proved her mettle in acting, she started her acting debut with Azfar Rehman for a Hum Tv play. Her film Baaji garnered her more success. The actress also took part in Ankhahi drama’s theatrical remake.
The model, oftentimes, remains in news for her bold statements. Lately, the actress is under severe public criticism due to her recent picture with a bold caption under it. She unapologetically captioned, “if someone drunk texts you, appreciate it, they are thinking of you when they can barely think straight”

Hey there! So after my last article, where I summed up some of the strong female leads I found pleasant to watch I got the question to make the same list for male characters. So today I’m writing this one. Before I start I would like to thank Samar for the idea, Mahera and Voice for their input and special thanks to Areeba Mohsen for helping me write the article.
1. Hassan – Dastaan
This was my favourite drama of all the time: the storyline, the actors, the direction, the production, the locations,… were all just brilliant. Fawad Khan was flawless in his role as Hassan. Hassan is a patriotic young man, studying at university. He is part of Muslim League and strongly supports Qaed-E-Azam. All aspects of his character are beyond awesome and his unconditional love for Bano has made a lot of girls fall in love with this man. He was ready to accept her, even after knowing she lived together with a sikh man for years and was even ready to accept her child. In my opinion, this was Fawad Khan’s best performance till date.
2. Azhar – Dhuaan
An ASP who forms a group, together with his friends to protect Pakistan. He dies fulfulling this mission. Hats off!
3. Afzal – Pyare Afzal
No need for an introduction, as almost everyone is watching this brilliant serial. Afzal is a strong man who leaves him family to end the mafias in Karachi. We surely need more men like him in our country!
4. Daood – Marasim
Ahsan Khan might have chosen some hmm not that great roles recently, but this one is beyond awesome. I have always liked him because in my opinion he’s a good actor and looks good but him playing nakaam Romeo became a drag. Finally he chose a good role and portrayed it brilliantly. Daood is a rich man who has to sacrifice his love for his bachpan ki mangetar for the hounour of his mother. He gets married to another girl, chosen by his mother. He isn’t happy at first but eventually accepts her. I love his character because of the way he handles his wife, he wants everybody to treat her well and give her respect. His character took a bad turn for a little while but he’s back. Now he’s training his wife to become strong and independant. He’s making the best of their married life, till death tears them apart (hopefully not :s)
Here, I want to add Fahad’s character from Marasim as well. He’s not playing the lead but he stole the show with his dialogues. He really loves his wife and even if he grew up abroad he sees his wife as his ‘izzatt’. He accepted her even when he knew she was in love with someone else.
5. Jawad – Malaal
Imran Abbas Naqvi played this role with complete justice. Jawad is someone who doesn’t only say ‘I love you’ but proves is as well. He is very confident and knows exactly what he wants. He has a high maturity level and that’s why I liked this character very much.
6. Abdul Qadir – Mein Abdul Qadir hun
Fahad Mustafa has been one of my favourite actors and this character was played brilliantly. Abdul Qadir is a weak and vulnerable man at first because he saw his parents fighting all the time. But he totally changes and becomes very strong after he helps someone accept Islam.
7. Haider – Mere Humdum Mere Dost
I know, most of us don’t like Adnan Sidiqui for wanting to be the young man forever and playing roles along girls half his age. But believe me, he was the only one who could play this role with justice. I don’t even mind his double Sanam’s age because he’s potraying Haiders’ role brilliantly. Haider is a man with a strong personality. He is the type of friend that would go through everything just to see his friend happy. He has changed Aiman from a weak, insecure girl (read: Romaisa II) into a strong girl full with confidence. I absolutely adore his character.
8. Gulsher Khan – Alpha Bravo Charlie
He gets killed while protecting the Muslims in Bosnia from Serbs. It’s amazing to see someone sacrificing his life while protecting others and reach the muqaam of Shaheed.
So, this was my list. Share your thoughts about it. Who should (not) be in the list in your opinion?
Ahh strong female leads, I really enjoy watching them on our screens. Because watching the mazloom en chup chap oorat has become hmm let’s say not so pleasant. Whether it be Romaisa in MSKSH or the female lead in Janam Jali. It’s a pain to watch them suffer and not standing up for themselves. Like Adeel Hussain’s character said in one of the last scenes of MSKSH: that the period of scared and zulm sehne wali oorat has passed a long time ago and now a man looks for a life partner who is strong and equal to him. Also Zeeshan in Mere Meherban said to Haya that the era of darri sehmi larkiyan is over in one of the latest episodes..
So for me it was time to make a list of the strong females we have seen on our screens and who were a pleasure to watch.
1. Kashaf – Zindagi Gulzar hai
For me Kashaf cannot be missed, she is a girl who has lived a hard life, seen as less worthy by her father because she is a daughter and not a son, seeing her mother sacrifcing every single thing to raise her daughters so Kashaf became a bit bitter about life but she is someone who always stood up for herself. Even though she belonged to middle class she proved to be a great student at university. Also she wore her dupatta with pride. In short it was a pleasure to watch such a bold character.
2. Kiran – Kankar
Sanam Baloch is one of the actresses who actually breath life into every character she plays. For me Kiran was an example. Her self-respect was really important and even Sikandar who was the perfect husband in the eyes of the society because of his social status did not have the right to take her respect away. She set an example by actually ending the relation wherein she had to endure so much.
3. Saba – Meri Zaat Zarra E Benishan
Ahh this one was sooo close to my heart. Often we see a woman forgiving all the pain a man caused her and moving on with that man. No matter how much the man has hurt them (a few examples: humsafar, Dil e Muztar, Mere Humrahi,…) I’m not saying that these serials weren’t good but still it was a but difficult to believe how these women could so easily forget everything. But here Saba refused to go back and decided to live her life on her own. Praise for Samia Mumtaz for portraying her role so brilliantly.
4. Aiman – Mere Humdum Mere Dost
I know most of you won’t agree right now but after reading the novel I am preity sure that Aiman is a strong girls in spe. In the beginning it seemed like it was Romaisa Part II but not anymore. Aiman is becoming a strong, independant, intelligent girl. I’ m sure she will impress us in the coming episodes.
5. Durre Shehwar – Durre Shehwar
Last but not least again our very lovely Sanam Baloch playing a difficult role with complete justice. There is this quote “sometimes the strongest women are the ones that love beyond all faults, cry behind closed doors and fight battles nobody knows about” and this one is totally the case for Durre Shehwar. She is someone who sacrificed everything just to build her home. Mansoor was far from perfect but she did not give up and eventually changed him into a loving and caring husband. Hats off for this brilliant woman!
Long gone are the days when females were casted into dramas and movies because the man needed a prop. Slowly but gradually the whole world has taken a feminist approach in entertainment business, just like many other businesses and our showbiz has followed suit.
In our dramas that come a dime a dozen, there are certainly some very memorable characters played by strong headed independent women, and their hallmark is not that they were born or married rich or were bestowed with extraordinary beauty that made them use these things to their advantage. Rather, the emphasis is on the girls next door.. flawed, imperfect, ordinary and yet they have a spirit that is totally unbreakable. It’s about women who stand up for themselves, for their values and for their relations. Our dramas have evolved into some very women centred themes and have succeeded brilliantly. Here we will discuss some memorable roles played by women in characters that stood true to themselves and went after what they wanted, not what the society would expect them to want. The list is b no means exclusive, and there’s must be more characters that left a mark, but we will discuss a few of them here.
Zindgi Gulzar Hai was written by Unera Ahmed, who is a very unconventional feminist and Sanam Saeed blew life into Kashaf and made her a legend for years to come. Kashaf was strong headed to the point of being stubborn. She held her dignity highest and was willing to give it any required sacrifice. Raised by a single educated mother and absent father, Kashaf was the prime example of a self made girl out to touch the horizons. The play must have given young girls the idea that anything is possible as long as you work with integrity.
Kankar was about a girl standing up to a husband who loved her and pampered her and spoilt her with presents and yet did not think it was a big deal to take out a little bit of anger here and there on his wife, especially if she dared to start or contribute to an argument. Their economic differences made no problem for Kiran as she placed her self respect at a much higher place than all that her abusive husband’s money could buy. Despite being called extremely lucky to have married into such riches, she stood her ground and refused to get intimidated by the fact that she was a very ordinary girl while he was a big industrialist. She was an inspiration to the women especially in Pakistan who remain mute for years over domestic abuse. It was a powerful drama in every meaning that it managed to convey.
Shanakht was about a girl who was born and brought up very liberally and then suddenly a friend of hers ignited he light of truth in her heart and that is how she becomes a practising Muslim. From breaking old friendships to be labelled as an outcast, Annie stood firm in her beliefs and the faith that she had just embraced. At her inlaws place, she was the most humble, gentlest soul and that is how she faced all trials..with a steady soothing calm that had become her hallmark since she had delved into Islamic practices so wholeheartedly, and that too coming from an elite society where it is entirely unheard of.
The Udaari women deserve a round of applause for making women all over the world so proud of being women. They were all village simpletons who showed their fighter spirits once they were out of that orthodox environment. From Sheedan to Sajjo to Meera to Zebo, these girls were stories in themselves. They were uneducated, yet the lesson of self awareness was learnt by them without any formal education. They stood up for eachother and became a clan where the injured and wounded is so well supported that soon there is no injured party in the whole clan. Hats off to all of them for telling their audience what women can do when it falls down to their shoulders and how a mother can fight for every demon that comes her way.
Ayesha Khan is certainly not one to deviate much from the societal norms and formula performances but in “khuda mera bhi hai”, she was a legend. A mother of gender queer child who had to give up her marriage for that child, Ayesha Khan did a brilliant job in portraying the grief, the sorrow, all the while defending her baby. Ayesha Khan showed the unprecedented love of a mother for her flawed child and her burning desire to make his life count for something worthwhile. The idea behind the drama that a mother can stand up for her imperfect child and make his life as normal as possible was just amazing and exactly what women of today need.
Anmol is the heart of Dillagi, a woman unimpressed by the status of her suitor, a woman after her own heart and a fiery soul, she was not easily defeatable. It is not that everything she did was right but she was true to her own self all along, be it love or hate, she was not doing anything to please anyone, no matter whom. Mehwish Hayat is such a natural in these roles that you cannot help thinking that she does not perform them, she owns them, through and through.
Most of the Pakistani dramas revolve around women. Unfortunately, most of the time these women are presented as weak characters who are most often subjugated. There are other dramas that show how a lively young girl turns into a helpless creature once she gets married or is overpowered by her circumstances. There are only a handful of recent Pakistani dramas that have shown women as strong individuals. While the subjugation of women is a reality in Pakistan, there are also so many such women who are fighting against injustices and winning. There are also those who have a strong support system and therefore these girls grow up to be strong individuals.
It won’t be wrong to say that Pakistani dramas thrive on presenting women as the weak ones. Although the stories revolve around them, the writers are most often barred from penning down female characters who are too strong because they are afraid the general public might not like them! There however are a few writers who are not afraid of showing women who are independent, in control, intelligent and progressive.
A strong female character is not one which is never presented by difficulties but it is one which when presented with a difficult situation handles it wisely and does not compromise on her values. And obviously strength is a positive trait therefore all those conniving females we watch in our dramas who exert all their energy in putting other people down are definitely not the kind of characters that would be appropriate for this list.
A strong female character is one that is positive and does not compromise on her principals. At the same time, she is not void of feelings and is able to balance her relationships.
Here are some of the most strong and likable female characters from recent dramas.
Washma (Pyar Ke Sadqay)
Washma is not the central character in Pyar Ke Sadqay but she has throughout been one of the best characters in the drama. It is rarely ever that the viewers get to see such characters on screen. Washma is a strong, positive, and intelligent young lady who is wise beyond her years. Her life experiences did not make her bitter but on the contrary, they helped her deal with people in her life according to a given situation. Washma is someone who is always on the right side, she is not afraid to speak her mind and she has some vulnerabilities as well which makes her character easy to relate to and human.
The way Washma has stood by Mahjabeen’s side even though her own brother and mother have turned against her goes to show what a strong character she has. Srha Asghar has brought this character to life by making Washma look like the most feisty and caring woman we have seen in dramas in a long time. The character has been written down perfectly and Srha Asghar has done complete justice to it.
Lalla Rukh (Pyar Ke Sadqay)
Pyar Ke Sadqay might have the most unlikeable female character like Mansoora but it also has another strong and likable female character such as Lalla Rukh. Although this character did not get a lot of screen time, it is safe to say that it has a definite screen presence. Lalla Rukh is an independent, compassionate, gentle, and positive woman who has been more than just a phupo to Washma. She is a mentor, someone who always gives the right advice on whether someone wants to hear it or not. Even though Mansoora got married to the man she loved, she has forgiven and moved on.
Lalla Rukh is one of those few strong females we have seen in our dramas lately who stand up for others more than they do for themselves. We rarely get to watch women like her who live independently and do not need a man to save them. This is the best character played by Sharmeen Khan to date, she also adds more meaning to this character by translating it on screen in such a gentle manner.
Ramsha (Dushman-e-Jaan)
Ramsha is another strong female character who unfortunately did not get a lot of screen time. Although Ramsha’s character died in the first few episodes, the impact she left was lasting. She was shown as an unapologetic, focused, confident, compassionate daughter and sister. Her no-nonsense attitude along with the responsibilities she was doing justice to even though it wasn’t easy given her character the edge it needed. In a few episodes, only Ramsha turned into one of the favorite characters in the drama. We definitely would love to see more such female characters in our dramas.
Dua (Ehd-e-Wafa)
Ehd-e-Wafa had so many progressive and strong female characters. Dua’s journey in the drama started when she was only a student and it ended with her impressive career in the armed forces. Dua’s character had so many strengths. She knew how to balance relationships and when to speak out. When her father passed away, she was the one who took up the difficult task of taking care of her mother without any help. Her reaction when she found out that she was adopted, also showed the strength of her character.
Even as a teenager, Dua was shown as someone who could see where she needed to focus. She did not just grow herself in her career and as a person but she also helped Saad do the same. As a working woman, she was determined and her vulnerabilities made her character even more likable. This was the best character played by Alizeh Shah because throughout her career she has been typecast as a victim.
Ramsha (Ehd-e-Wafa)
Ramsha was another female character that we rarely get to see in Pakistani dramas. She was educated, outspoken, full of confidence, and a go-getter. She represented all those Pakistani women who are just as capable of playing an active role in media as men. Just like all the other strong female characters in this list, Ramsha was also a woman with a definite purpose in her mind.
There was a sensitive side to her but she was always practical and candid unlike some of the other females in the list. Hajra Yamin was extremely convincing in this role, she made this character much more pleasing to watch on screen.
Faryal (Ehd-e-Wafa)
Saad’s mother Faryal was another progressive and strong female character. She was shown as a working woman who was also a wise mother. She helped out people in need at her clinic and outside her clinic, she was a wonderful human being. She accepted Dua as her own daughter and when Saad left for his mission, she held on to hope and positivity.
She was an ex-army man’s wife and she knew what was at stake when she got her son enrolled in the army. She was such a strong woman that there were so many times when her son also derived strength from her. Vaneeza Ahmed was the perfect choice for playing the role.
Momina (Alif)
Momina from Alif did not have a perfect life, there were so many hardships that were faced by her yet she fought with everything bravely right till the end. Momina had her weak moment, she also had her vulnerabilities but she never lost sight of what she needed to achieve in life. She was shown as a young girl with great strength of character, someone who did so much for her family, and in the end, too she made decisions that were meant for the betterment of the people she loved and not herself.
Momina’s entire journey was inspiring in so many ways. It showed how a female character can be strong even against all odds. Sajal Aly portrayed this character and its different shades remarkably well on screen.
Shanzay (Ghalati)
Shanzay was one of the most assertive, sensible, and practical female characters we saw in recent Pakistani dramas. She had so many strengths and for a change, the writer did not hold back while showing a woman questioning every single unacceptable expectation from her. She refused to be a victim and made sure that she showed her mother-in-law the mirror.
Right from the start, Shanzay’s practical side was the most attractive element of her character. She also had a sensitive and caring side to her which is why she did not just fight for herself but also for Zaira in a way. This character sent such a good message to all the girls out there, the writer through this character told the girls not to settle for less! Mehar Bano performed brilliantly throughout. She fit so well in this role.
Hajra (Inkaar)
Inkaar was a drama that was inspired by true events therefore Hajra’s character was the most endearing one on this list. Hajra went through an entire trial after her ex-boyfriend tried to kill her. She had her weak moments and had to bear with so much. With the help of her father and male friend, she managed to get through this difficult time. The scenes covering Hajra’s question-answer session during the trial showed her strength and her vulnerabilities at the same time. Hajra’s entire journey was covered so well and it was shown convincingly how she develops into such a strong individual.
Yumna Zaidi’s exceptional performance definitely added to the appeal and impact Hajra’s character had. We rarely see girls from such households on television showing this kind of strength.
Noori (Ranjha Ranjha Kardi)
Noori was one of the most layered strong female characters we have seen in Pakistani dramas. There are few writers who are comfortable with creating such realistic character which is strong but are not free of flaws. Noori was always strong even when she was just a girl who picked trash for a living, even then she had certain dreams and ambitions. She never wanted to get married to a rich man, she wanted to get an education and earn her own living.
Noori went through some really difficult times as the story progressed and even though she had some of the weakest moments, Noori always was strong enough to face everything that came her way.
It is definitely delightful when our writers show females as strong individuals who do not always rely on men and are not victims. We love watching such independent and self-reliant women in dramas. Feel free to add more names to the list.
There is no denying the fact that drama serial Nand is all the rage these days. Despite having a typical storyline, it has all the tactics that have grabbed the attention of the viewers. This is the reason, Nand happens to be one of the widely and popularly discussed dramas these days. The story of Nand, as the title suggests is about the character who becomes a sister in law and can not see her brothers happy. This drama has its fair share of conspiracies, plottings, scheming, and has everything to do with family politics but still, it has imparted quite a few lessons to those who are watching. At times, stories like these end up creating more awareness because they show everything on an extreme level where everything is either black or white, this way it creates quite an impact and leaves quite an impression.
Drama serial Nand has quite a few characters and the writer Sameena Ejaz has made sure to give each one of them a unique personality. Although the Nand in this drama runs the show, the supporting characters have a strong screen presence and contribute a great deal in the progress of the story as well. Drama serial Nand has quite a few twists and turns, and they come along because either the characters behave unexpectedly or the viewers don’t see them coming.
Here is the list of strong and weak characters from the drama serial Nand:
Strong Characters
Gohar (Faiza Hassan)
As surprising as this may sound, but Gohar indeed is the strongest character of the drama. Although she is a negative character, after a while, the viewers are getting to see such a negative character that is leaving quite an impact and running the show here. The show has been designed for her and she happens to be the central character, because of which she gets to control every situation and easily manipulates people around her. Gohar has a strong personality and Faiza Hassan has done complete justice to this character. The way she has carried herself in this drama as Gohar is what has made it quite convincing.
Apart from her phenomenal performance, it is always interesting to see what Gohar is planning and what she is intending to do. She is an antagonist who has actually made the entire dynamic of the story quite dramatic and worthwhile. The writer went all out in showing the negative traits people like Gohar can possess, who are envious and can not see others happy, even if it means sacrificing the peace and happiness of those they seemingly call their own.
Gohar is seen scheming against her own brother’s wife and the moment she sees that the couple is expecting their first baby, she doesn’t mind devising a plan which results in the miscarriage. Gohar shows no remorse over the fact that it was also her brother in the picture who lost the baby. Gohar knows what she wants and this is the reason, she keeps on finding and mending ways in order to achieve the goals that she sets for herself, which makes her a negative but strong character in this entire drama.
Farwa (Maha Hassan)
Farwa is at the other side of the spectrum in Gohar’s comparison and she too happens to be one of the best and strongest characters of the drama. Farwa shows what it is like to have values and ethics. Farwa has been raised with such values where she doesn’t settle for anything that is not in line with her moral compass. Farwa is the kind of person who believes in doing right and standing by the right. This is the reason she did not accept the mistreatment that Gohar subjected her to because firstly, she had the courage and confidence to stand up for herself, and secondly, right from the beginning she knew that Gohar won’t be able to harm her unless she allows it.
The braveness and fierceness with which Farwa faced Gohar and outbid her in all of her evil schemes that she continues to plan against Farwa made the viewers fall in love with her character. In the recent episode, Farwa showed that she will always stand by the right and also wouldn’t allow her husband to support what is evidently wrong. Farwa is not afraid of speaking up her mind and this is the reason, she is now at a place where her biggest enemy Gohar knows that she can not do anything to Farwa. Maha Hassan has played this character beautifully and her minute expressions make it quite interesting to see what Farwa is feeling and thinking.
Hassan (Ayaz Samoo)
It won’t be wrong to say that Pakistani drama viewers want more husbands like Hassan. Hassan has shown what an ideal husband is like. Although at times he does get influenced by his sister because he is emotionally attached to his siblings, the personality trait that makes him ideal is the fact that he never loses his own ability of judgment and doesn’t let anything cloud it. Hassan proved to be a man of his word because he didn’t change after marriage and continued to support his wife emotionally and mentally when she needed it the most. Another aspect that makes Hassan’s character ideal is the fact that he believes in open communication, this is why he shared everything with Farwa and told her about the dynamics of his family because he knew that Gohar was prone to creating troubles and misunderstandings.
After his marriage to Farwa, he stood by her side and let his entire family know that they were not allowed to mistreat Farwa. Although Farwa fought her battles herself it was always nice to see her having Hassan’s back. Their relationship is also built on trust and through it, the writer has reinforced the importance of trust between a husband and wife. When Gohar played cheap tactics against Farwa and made it look like she was having an affair with her university fellow Shahzaib behind Hassan’s back, Hassan did not even think about its possibility for a second because he knew that Farwa was not cheating on him and that Shahzaib was just her friend and nothing else. It also goes to show that it is perfectly alright for a girl to stay in touch with her friends even after the marriage because she had a life of her own before it too.
Farwa’s Father (Zia Gurchani)
Farwa’s father happens to be another strong character in the drama serial Nand. It is because he is an emotionally and mentally invested father who lets his child know every step of the way that she has his back and that she is not alone. The way Farwa’s character has evolved goes to show the kind of upbringing she had and it is directly linked to the values that her father must have instilled in her. Farwa’s father is far-sighted and wise, this is why in just a couple of interactions with Gohar, he understood that she was problematic and had another side to her which she was concealing.
Farwa’s father has stayed in touch with her and has repeatedly shown his concerns, not only to her but also to Hassan. It shows that he is also not afraid to speak his mind and wants to make sure that his daughter stays safe, feels secure, and is happy. It is a rarity to see such supportive fathers in Pakistani dramas and luckily, he happens to be one of them. Zia Gurchani’s expressions, especially every time he had a conversation with Gohar were a treat for the viewers to watch because he made it quite obvious that he was not buying all of the things that Gohar was nicely lying about.
Aleem (Tipu Sharif)
Although the character of Aleem was short-lived, he definitely left an impact. He was soft-spoken and kind-hearted, also probably one of those who are quite courteous that they don’t mind staying quiet even when they can see the wrongdoings of others but what made his character strong was the continuous support that he extended towards his younger sister Rabi. Aleem did everything he could to make sure that Rabi stays married and this is why he continued to guide her. Aleem was always there for her and never once made her feel like she should put up with everything that Gohar was subjecting her to. Aleem even decided to apologize hoping that it would make things better, but it was his kindness that made him think that Rabi’s in-laws would reciprocate it and now things will be normal.
After Rabi’s divorce, her brother helped her come out of that depressive phase with his continuous love and support because he understood that this is what she needed the most. Aleem also knew that his sister did everything to make this marriage work, this is why when it ended, he never made her feel like what she did wasn’t enough. Aleem told her that he was going to be there for her and it helped Rabi a great deal in moving on in her life. Tipu Sharif’s performance as Aleem was convincing, his courteous and gentle dialogue delivery made it very obvious that as a brother he felt burdened and wanted nothing but the best for his sister because he had raised her with a lot of love and care.
Weak Characters
Saqib (Shehroz Sabzwari)
The viewers of Nand have probably resented Saqib’s character more than anyone in this drama. Gohar is the most disliked character but then, she is who she is, therefore all that she does is expected of her. However, no one expected Saqib to turn out to be such a bad husband who would fail to protect his wife, whom he knew couldn’t do anything wrong. Saqib was a nightmare of a husband who did not allow his wife or even himself to nurture their newly build a relationship. Saqib ended up giving too much edge to his sister and because he was so used to being emotionally abused by his sister, he expected his wife to endure the same without even complaining.
Rabi did not complain and at times, when she wanted to, Saqib made her feel like the worst person alive because she doubted his saint-like sister. Saqib could see at times that his sister was being unreasonable but she chose to side with her. Saqib crossed all the limits of being a bad husband and weak character when he divorced Rabi after he was being pressurized by Gohar. Although he regretted his decision later his regret held no meaning the moment he started doubting the fact that Rabi and Jahangir actually had something going on, only because Saqib spotted Jahangir and his mother at Rabi’s place. Saqib also held Rabi responsible for not speaking up and taking a stand, because after seeing Farwa he actually fancied the idea of what a strong woman is like. Saqib himself should’ve felt ashamed that he never gave his wife her due rights to speak up against the slander insinuated by Gohar, rather he still hoped that Rabi had done something just like Farwa does.
In one of the recent episodes, Saqib failed to retrieve Rabi’s gold bangles from his sister – yet again proving what a weak character he is. In drama serial Nand, Shehroz Sabzwari has actually acted really well, especially in those scenes where Saqib is seen regretting his decision of divorcing Rabi. Shehroz Sabzwari has also done justice to the emotional transitioning of Saqib’s character because ever since his divorce, the dejection in his body language and despair in his overall personality evidently shows that Saqib is not happy without Rabi. Another prove of him being a weak character was when he literally dragged Rabi from Jahangir’s place and brought her in front of Gohar so that she could assault and harm her. *smh*
Gohar’s Mother (Sumbul Shahid)
In Urdu, if the only word that can perfectly describe her character would be ‘lattu’, because she continues to spin and has no sense of direction whatsoever. Gohar’s mother is a weak character, but on top of that, she is a clueless character too who has absolutely no idea what a monster her daughter is. At times she does understand what Gohar is doing is wrong, but only because she hypocritically wants to maintain good relations with her daughter as well as her sons, she continues to just turn a blind eye to all of their wrongdoings and shortcomings. Gohar’s mother has time and again shown that she also suffers from short-term memory loss because she immediately forgets what she had just said and backtracks within a split second.
She is a weak character who fails to take charge of the situation and because of her indecisive nature and laidback attitude, her daughter as well her elder son are suffering. The youngest Hassan has been saved and rescued because he is now married to a strong and level-headed girl like Farwa who has a sense of direction and right and wrong, which the Lattu aunty lacks.
There have been innumerous occasions where she has displayed her weakness, the first one that stands out the most is when she herself praised Rabi in front of Jahangir, telling him to ask her how she is being treated in this house. The moment Jahangir also praised Rabi for her patience, Lattu aunty immediately used it against him and started questioning him about how could he shamelessly say nice things about Rabi. Sumbul Shahid has played her part well and the cluelessness of this character actually makes her look absolutely cute. It is nothing short of a treat and an experience of its own to witness her cluelessness and we are not complaining, hain, haan!
Rabi (Minal Khan)
Rabi is one of the reasonable characters of the drama but she can be easily termed as a weak character because she chose not to have a voice when it was needed the most. Although through her character, the writer has tried to reinforce the fact that a wife’s confidence and self-esteem thrives on the support of her husband, but on her own, a woman can be so much more. It was in the earliest stages of her marriage when Rabi realized that Gohar was a problematic person in the entire family, and still she chose not to do much about it. Rabi chose to be an escapist where she maintained a distance from Gohar and chose to stay silent when things got out of hand. However, none of that worked in her favor.
It goes to show that being weak and vulnerable all the time does you no good and people end up walking all over you. Rabi definitely is a reasonable character but it broke the heart of the viewers to see her easily becoming a victim of emotional, mental as well as physical abuse and still expecting that things will change for the better and will turn in her favor, which did not happen. Minal Khan has played the character of Rabi beautifully and has been able to show her range as an actor because seeing her in Jalan and Nand are two completely different experiences.
Jahangir’s Mother (Sabiha Hashmi)
Jahangir’s mother is yet another reasonable character in this drama. It is nice to see her being an ideal mother who is so emotionally invested in her son that she feels and senses his struggles even when he tries his best to keep them as a secret from her. However, in the recent episode and the preview of the upcoming episodes, it seems she is going to fall prey to Gohar’s fake antics and she will be the only one who will stop Jahangir from divorcing and getting rid of Gohar’s negativity from his life.
It is good to have faith in people but to blindly believe in miracles is absolutely wrong, especially in this case when she has seen Gohar’s worst behavior over the years. It is nice to give people second, third, and even multiple chances but to literally forget what the other person is capable of is weakness and nothing else. For a woman, her age who has so much of experience, for her to fall for Gohar’s lies shows that she is going to be a weak character from now on. She will now force Jahangir to stay married to Gohar only for the sake of Omar, which is not going to be a pleasant experience for Jahangir because this way, his mother will be putting him through more emotional and mental abuse and torture, which is wrong.
Drama serial Nand has two more reasonable characters; Jahangir and Muneeza but they do not fall in either category. The character of Muneeza is really good because, through her, the writer broke the stereotype and showed that bhabhi’s can be friendly and like elder sisters too. Jahangir is another reasonable and good character who was going through a financial crisis and did not have much power or control over things. With his financial condition and circumstances changing, the viewers do hope to see him taking things in his hands and putting an end to Gohar’s negativity.
This completes the list of weak and strong characters from drama serial Nand. Are you following this drama, which character irks you the most, and which character is your favorite? Please feel free to share your opinion about this drama and characters.
After the success of Pepsi Battle Of The Bands Season 2, another season is coming up and there are major changes. Last year we saw Atif Aslam on the judges’ panel. However, the star will not be a part of this latest season due to unavailability of dates. News had it that Ali Zafar will take his place this season. As you all know a major controversy started a few days back between Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi. Consequently, Ali will not be a part of the show now. Strings will be replacing him. So basically its strings replacing Ali Zafar and since his presence was not confirmed, Atif Aslam.
Uptill now Fawad Khan and Shahi Hassan are going to be a part of the show with the latter being the producer too. Meesha is also a part of the show as nothing has been said about her part after the controversy.
Hoping this would be a good season for all the music lovers!

About Strings
Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood created Strings a rock-pop band in 1989 and since then has won tremendous acclaim for introducing a new wave of Pakistani music. Their albums Duur in 2001 and Dhaani in 2004 garnered them the top spot amongst the sub-continent’s music culture and probably have more Indian fans than their own country. Amongst their eclectic body of work- Spiderman -2’s OST (Najane Kyun) for its India release, an anthem of sorts for the India-Pak cricket series in collaboration with Indian rock band Euphoria, songs for movie Zinda – starring Indian actor Sanjay Dutt and the soundtrack on Shootout at Lokhandwala. They have created a unique musical identity all their own by staying true to their Eastern roots incorporating ragas in their vocals, classical flute and sarangi tones to their music and thus merging the best of all worlds. They were first signed by major record label EMI during the release of their album in 1990 – Strings and their single “Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar” aired on MTV- Asia from their second album release made them a global hit. The year 2008 saw the release of their fifth album – Koi Aanay Wala Hai again renewed afresh their journey towards commercial success in India and was also co-produced by Indian actor John Abraham.

Brace for the impact all Strings fans for the band just released it’s first single of the year titled ‘Sajni’. The band took to facebook and wrote,

“Amidst bursts of color and quirky moments, the duo channel a retro vibe in the music video, directed by Yasir Jaswal, keeping with the playfulness of the song.”
The song has gathered over 13,000 views within an hour.
Strings earlier confirmed that they will celebrate three decades of playing music together with the release of eight singles, with the first two songs being ‘Sajni’ and ‘Urr Jaon’.
Celebrations of three decades of Strings haven’t ended yet and won’t be ending anytime soon. The first song ‘Sajni’ was as gorgeously melodious as possible and the next addition to the album 30 is ‘Urr Jaoon’. Urr Jaoon focuses more on social vices and the unequal distribution of wealth.
Speaking of the album Faisal said,
“We want to give equal importance to all the songs which is why we don’t want to release them all together.”
Sung by Bilal Maqsood and directed by Jami, Urr Jaoon spreads the message of empathy and integrity. It celebrates those who fight whatever life throws at them.
Coke Studio started with Rohail Hyatt as the producer. It went on to become the biggest hit in Pakistani music scene. Later Strings became the producers of the show and they have been here for four seasons now. Many hits and new singers came out during the Strings era. The news is that the Strings duo are bidding goodbye to Coke Studio making season 10 their last. They announced it on their facebook page. Here is the post:
Also, Strings are completing their 30 years in 2018, so let us wait to see what they have in store for us as a celebration. Who do you think should be next producer for Coke Studio? Share your thoughts in the comments section!
This year marks the thirty year anniversary of the Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood powerhouse duo and the duo is all set to release eight singles to celebrate three decades of Strings as Express Tribune revealed and we feel aesthetic.
The duo took the Coke Studio throne from Rohail Hayat since seventh season and has produced four seasons back to back until they bid farewell to the greatest music platform of country last year.
The first two tracks amongst the eight brand new singles to be released are Sajni and Urr Jaaon.
It has been years since we have enjoyed a pure Strings-ish track and the wait is finally over now let’s hope the new tracks were worth the wait. Boarding the hype train nonetheless.
