Entertainment industry is a tough place, both getting into it and staying at a place is difficult there. Fahad was a guest on Nauman Ijaz’s G Sarkar and he answered questions quite candidly. While answering a question, he revealed that he has been rejected in the industry for many reasons. Staying in showbiz for so many years has introduced him to a lot of reasons one can get rejected by the people in power.
However, he revealed that the strangest reason he was rejected for was that “he has too much hair”. Nauman Ijaz was also shocked and said that hair is so important in the industry that he himself had to get a transplant when he started losing hair. Urwa Hussain, after facing backslash on her opinion about depression has opened up, she says I never wanted anybody to tell that I have suffered from depression and the right choices of picking up food has helped me alot, she said changing habits of bad eating definitely helped me she said obviously processed food is not good for health we all know that but when Urwa said this thing that right choice of food always help in boosting up the mood or it helps you to get rid of depression, people trolled her

After the two successful add-ons (Chambaili and the reluctant fundamentalist) in the Pakistan’s film industry back-2-back, It is supposed that the upcoming movie “Tamanna” would entertain the audience to fullest. Been directed by a British director Steven Moore, the movie is produced by the young producer Sarah Tareen. The cast of the movie consists of Salman Shahid, Feryal Gauhar, Hameed Sheikh, Umair Rana, Mehreen Raheal and Irfan Khan who would be seen in major roles.
Steven has been living in Lahore for the past 5 years, serving the South Asian Media school and the Film and Television Institute in Lahore. He believes that the industry has a lot of potential yet left neglected. The movie has been shot in Pakistan only and featured in Urdu only. The songs that have already attracted viewers are done by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and the movie is said to be on its final stages.

India has one of the largest and most vibrant entertainment industries in the world. How ever it is notorious for copying western content and also for it’s xenophobic productions depicting it’s neighbor Pakistan as the center of all evil.
Here are some common stereotypes perpetuated by Indian movies and dramas.
1) Pakistan is responsible for all evil in India: Whether it is terrorism, Khalistan movement, drug and weapon smuggling or the underworld ISI is responsible for it. What is amusing is that in these jokes of a movies/dramas ISI agents are openly running around the country( telling every one they work for ISI nonetheless) and no body seems to stop them or at least find out how they got in the country.
2) Kashmiris are terrorists: Kashmiris are carrying out terrorism in India (again with Pakistan’s help!). Or they are simpletons who are being brainwashed by Pakistan. It is up to our Indian hero to either kill or reeducate them.( What ever fits the nonsensical plot)
3) Indian muslims are ISI agents: There is a log list of movies and dramas that depict this. Sarfarosh etc. The list is too long to be mentioned here. These movies depict Indian Muslims as fifth-columnists. ISI agents are seen recruiting/duping them in the name of Islam.
4) Every corrupt politician is A Pakistani agent: ‘Garv’ requires an honorable mention ( sarcasm) in perpetuating this ridiculous conspiracy theory. It seems it’s dialogue were written by Bal Thackeray or an agent of RAW. It was an open contest of who would abuse Pakistan more. So remember the next time a mega-corruption scandal breaks out in India we are responsible for it!
5) Pakistan is responsible for all ills in the world: Whether it is terrorism, smuggling or even Human trafficking Pakistan is at fault. Even in foreign counties Pakistanis are carrying out these evil acts unless of course our brave Indian hero stops them.
6) Pakistanis are one-dimensional villains: Looks like Pakistanis have no other job or hobby in the world then the plots to take over Kashmir, plan terrorism in India etc. We have no other desire to improve our living conditions but to continuously obsess over harming India.
7) The muslim stereotypes: Pakistani women( when shown and that too in ridiculous roles) are always covered in a Burqa ( unless they are female ISI agents Ofcourse!). Pakistanis wear skull caps whether at the barber shop( D-day) or even when seeing a cricket match! ( Dil bolay Harappa___ A movie which was tragically unfunny and mind-numbingly stupid by the way).
8) Pakistani women always fall for the Indian hero: Whether it is ‘Agent Vinod’ ( full of (wrong) stereotypes or ‘Ek tha (buddha) Tiger’ Pakistani women( trained ISI agents by the way) fall for aged Indian heroes. They abandon their country, their families, their duties( To destroy India Ofcourse for their man. Commendable indeed is their sacrifice for love or blind adulation for the 40+ hero. And if the situation reverses( Qurban For ex.) then beware the wrath of Shiv sena!
9) Cultural stereotypes: Pakistan is a diverse country, It has many different cultures and people having vastly different lifestyles. How ever Pakistanis are depicted as backward, poor, generally depressed( no wonder they attempt to escape this dreary life by going on an exciting mission against India. Women are always in hijab or with their dupatta draped firmly around their body. What is objectionable in not what they are wearing but that these women are always shown as repressed illiterate house wives. Even highly-educated working women wear hijab in Pakistan so it is a dumb stereotype nothing more. Also looks like Pakistani men have nothing else to wear then shalwar kameez( Have you finally won JJ? :P). Except for the generals who attend weddings in full-military uniform complete with medals! (Qurban, Ghadar etc.). Pakistanis speak in Urdu only! Looks like Sindhi, Gujarati, Balochi, Pashto, Punjabi, Kashmiri. Gligati, Hindko and Seraiki are spoken on Mars! Also Pakistanis use Aadab. Wear Ghararas( no seriously) and speak highly-persianized Urdu( But with a Hindi Accent hence leading to some really ridiculous and stilted dialogues)
10) Indian muslim leaders are Pakistani stooges: When they are not busy extracting favors ( read blackmail) from their political bosses, creating issues of nothing and starting riots against Hindus( Always started by sword-wielding Muslims in skull caps and beards) they are busy in contacting ISI to carry out their evil plans! (Examples are too numerous and painful to quote here!)
11) Pakistanis are evil by nature: Pakistanis are shown as treacherous, corrupt, misogynistic and generally unfriendly. I won’t be surprised if some day these movies claim that we are not even human but a race of Demons out to harm India!
These stereotypes might seem laughable and ridiculous to such but keep in mind that there are millions of Indians who believe these stereotypes to be true. The amount of hate we see online and generally by Indians is a direct result of it. I wish these Indian researchers should at least do their research before forming a picture of Pakistan. Couldn’t they at least Google ‘Culture of Pakistan’ before presenting such erm ….. Masterpieces!

Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has been in the news a lot lately because of his remarks about women’s equality. At the same time, he insists that he is a feminist. Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar’s definition of feminism is based on his own experiences. He even went as far as openly condemning modern feminists. He does not believe in women’s equality and in a few of his interviews he made some shocking statements which the feminists confronted. Even while sharing his views, he was sure that the feminists were going to react to it but he was so sure that he himself was talking in women’s favor that he did not hold back. His views about women have raised more controversies and questions than anything else lately.
Momina Mustehsan
While there have been times when Momina Mustehsan has avoided talking about feminism but she also surprised her followers by speaking about it in a ‘NowThis’ video and giving a completely different statement. Although in another interview Momina said she did not want to talk about feminism since it could land her in trouble. In this video she was seen making people understand the concept. In this video she talked about how difficult it was for women to talk about women empowerment because when they do so, they come under attack.
Sanam Saeed is another actress who gave two conflicting opinions about feminism. In one of the interviews, she said that she does not believe that men and women are equal and in the other, she said that she believed in the equality of men and women. Sanam Saeed also said once that feminism was ‘overrated’. It is quite clear that Sanam Saeed is confused about her true feelings about feminism but still chose to talk about it more than once.
Hamza Ali Abbasi
Hamza Ali Abbasi’s stance on feminism has changed over the period of time. He keeps on giving statements that reflect his viewpoints. Back in 2017, Hamza Ali Abbasi shared a post that basically made it look like he did not believe in feminism but believed in the rights of every human being. For Hamza, the two are the same and not different. Also, he talked about how wrong it was to objectify women and he also said that Islam gave women respect, protection, and rights. Hamza Ali Abbasi, therefore, has often talked in favor of women, he has supported them in different ways without addressing the general idea of feminism directly.
Aamina Sheikh
Aamina Sheikh thinks that feminism is misinterpreted and perhaps misrepresented too. Aamina Sheikh in an interview said that she was not a feminist and in another interview, she said that people did not really understand the concept. Aamina Sheikh’s feminist followers were disappointed by her take on feminism even on the red carpet when she once decided not to talk about it. In a written interview Aamina said, “I don’t believe in feminism as I think that if we talk about gender differences, we tend to multiply them even more. Similarly, if we pay attention to similarities between the two genders, things might seem a little positive. So I simply don’t rely on any feminist approach.”
Nauman Ijaz
Nauman Ijaz hardly ever gives interviews because he feels that sometimes the statements given by celebrities in interviews turn controversial. In his interview with Iffat Omar, he talked about the #metoo movement which also gave an insight into his views about feminism. Since feminism too has been imported from the West. Nauman Ijaz believes that women and men should turn to religion for guidance and not follow Western values. Nauman Ijaz also talked about those women who victimized men.

Pehlaaj Hassan, a smart kid of Pakistan television industry, is winning the hearts of millions of people with his cuteness and adorable attitude. Pehlaaj’s parents are from the television industry, so he was into this field from his childhood. He joined his father on the set of Shan-e-Ramzan and became famous.
Iqrar-ul-Hassan recently talked about his family and Pehlaaj on the set of Rewind with Samina Peerzada. Samina asked him how he felt when he became a father to which he replied that he still remembers the first moment when he saw Pehlaaj. ”He looked like a baby from Gilgit-Baltistan”, said Iqrar-ul-Hassan with a loving smile on his face.
Pehlaaj used to take 3 to 4 hours at night to sleep, and Iqrar used to roam around the room with Pehlaaj in his hands to make him sleep. Samina then asked him about who named him Pehlaaj to which Iqrar replied that it was a mutual decision and it means ”Pahla Bacha” (First Kid).

There are many stars in our televisions industry who are immensely talented and it is always a pleasure to watch them on-screen but for some reason or the other they do not appear on-screen as often as we would like to see them. There are some stars who are very selective about the kind of work they do, others are busy with their families or giving time to other fields with which they are also related. Many of the stars in our industry are multi talented, there is hardly any actor who acts alone, many of them host shows, sing and some are even involved in production and direction. This could also be the reason why we don’t get to see these actors as often as we would like to. Here is a list of few actors who I think do not appear on-screen as often as we would like to see them.
Sanam Baloch:
Sanam Baloch Is an actress, model and a hostess and she excels in all three fields. Sanam Baloch’s work is a proof of the fact that she is extremely talented and takes what she does very seriously. Her performances in Doraha, Daam, Dastan and Durr-e-Shehwar in particular were unforgettable. After watching Durr-e-Shehwar in particular I waited anxiously to watch this diva on-screen again but I must say that Roshan Sitara and Nadamat both failed to bring out the best in her. Although Sanam Baloch was spot on as the bubbly character in Roshan Sitara but unfortunately the play itself failed to make an impact with the audience. Sanam Baloch has done full justice to her character in drama serial Kankar, no one could have played this character better than her.
I am anxiously waiting to see Sanam Baloch in another play which will bring out the best in her. She is definitely one of those stars who breathe life into every character and someone you would want to see more of.
Asif Raza Mir:
This highly endowed gentleman needs absolutely no introduction. Words fall short when it comes to praising his talent. He is an actor who fits perfectly in serious and comedy roles and no one delivers dialogues like him. Apart from being a very gifted actor, he also has a very charming personality and wants to do whatever he can in order to make Pakistan’s drama Industry progress. The reason why we don’t get to see to see him on-screen often enough could be that apart from acting, Asif Raza Mir also has a very big production house to run and he has always been running a business too.
Babar Ali:
I must confess that I was not a big fan of Babar Ali to begin with but his acting in “Ik Nazar Meri Taraf” completely blew me off. I honestly did not think he had in him and found it difficult to believe that an actor like him who has always been doing larger than life characters in films could mould himself in a character which was quite unlike many that he had played till now. Babar Ali has proven that he is a very gifted actor and a good script and director can bring out the best in him. My list would have been incomplete without his name here because ever since “Ik Nazar Meri Taraf” Ended, I have been waiting to see him in a good role.
Alishba Yusef:
Alishba Yusef’s fans don’t get to see enough of her ever. Her acting talent was wasted in Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley and she has not appeared on screen ever since. She is a great actress and also totally adorable. She has earned a very good name for herself in the industry in a very short span of time. I would really like to see Alishba in lead roles and I am hoping that she does not go off screen like many of the other actresses who are involved in different fields of work.
Nadia Jamil:
I think the sole reason why we don’t’ get to see this wonderful actress on-screen as often as we would like to is that her heart is still set with theatre and even now she is busy working in International theatre projects and is hoping that she will be able to do her country proud. Nadia Jamil studied drama from Hampshire College and Allegheny College and she believes that her degree and the experience in theater both really helped her in her acting. Nadia Jamil’s first play was “Putli Ghur”, it was a long play that is still fresh in my mind and I go and watch it over and over again whenever I get time. Having family commitments is also another reason why Nadia Jamil does not appear in dramas too often. She has nailed every character she has ever chosen and definitely is one of those actresses who illuminate the screen with their presence. Watching her in the telefilm Behad was an absolute delight but I do get the feeling a little too often that we don’t get to see her often enough on screen.
I must share something with all of you, I made a similar list a few months back of actors who were not being seen often enough on-screen and quite interestingly all those actors who were rarely seen on-screen started working on regular basis…coincidence of course! The Dil-e-Muztar girl, Sanam Jung was a talented Banker who did her MBA from the Institute of Business Administration. She worked in the Bank for a year and then started her TV career as a VJ on AAG TV.
FAWAD KHAN
All the people who think Fawad is only a good TV and film Actor are not that right. It is because before acting he was a very talented musician. He was the main Vocalist of the Band E.P. It was in 2007 that he left music and then made appearance in the film Khuda Kay Liyay’ and later it was his drama Hum Safar that paved his road to ultimate success and stardom.
JIBRAN SYED
Jibran Syed was completely focused on pursuing the field of medical by becoming a doctor. But sooner he realized that his passion is acting, it was then he made his debut on Pakistan Television in drama serial Hook.
AINY JAFFRI
The famous gal form the drama serial Meri Behan Maya, Ainy did her graduation from McGill university in Canada. She also worked in an advertising company in Singapore. She started acting in 2010 and made a big hit in the year 2012 by her play Meri Behan Maya.
ALI ZAFAR
Ali Zaffar the talented music artist is very much known for his song Channo. Before Ali started music professionally he was an artist. Ali completed his degree in Fine Arts from National College of Arts Lahore. He left his sketch artist career in PC Lahore and started acting in a television serial.
NOMAN IJAZ
The renowned actor Nauman Ijaz did his law from the fanous Quaid- e-Azam University. Before he could become a successful lawyer, he pursued his career in acting.
SYRA YOUSUF
Syra Yosaf was a VJ at shows like Most Wanted and Bheja Fry. She didn’t stick to being a VJ and directed his career towards acting. She made her debut in the drama serial “Mera Naseeb”. The drama was a huge hit and created more opportunities for the talented girl.
RAHAT KAZMI
The Dhoop Kinnaray “Rahat Kazmi” was the first CSP officer who left his job for acting. Rahat was employed as an information Officer in the prestigious Pakistani Civil Services in 1968. It was in the year 1976 that he resigned from the position and took up acting as a career.

Everyone agreed that it was an apology of a script but still audiences watched for the sheer star power of Fawad. Had it not been Fawad,the serial wouldn’t have got the ads or following it got. Similarly,Jo Chalay To Jan se guzar gaye was an average drama at best and because of Saba Qamar’s and Noman Ijaz’s presence many people followed it.
On the flip side,absence of suitable actors led to certain dramas not getting the required popularity/ratings. Mata-e-Jaan hai tu and zard mausam are prime examples of it where the casting was criticized constantly along with changes made in the original story lines.Therefore, popular actors can make ordinary/bad stories work and unpopular actors cannot work good stories workable.We as audience need to think now whether we appreciate good stories or just like to see our popular and loved actors.As long as we continue to go for actors,makers would continue to cast them as their recipe for success rather than strong story line.And yes I am ready for all those who’d say that this phenomenon is common across the world and not unique to Pakistani TV Industry.Still,we need to think and mature as audiences.

HUM TV Awards are one of the biggest awards of the drama industry in Pakistan. HUM TV Awards are always a star studded affair. The awards are to be held on the 9th of April in Dubai. The recent horrific accident on Karsaz Road in Karachi grabbed public attention because the two innocent people lost their lives on the spot. This unfortunate accident occurred on August 19, 2024, when a lady named Natasha Danish rammed her Toyota Land Cruiser on a bike which was being driven by Imran Arif, who was taking his daughter Amna back from the university. The accident also left motorcyclist severely injured. Reportedly, the culprit was drunk during the driving.
