After returning from Harvard, the brother-sister duo, Hania and Kamil Chima, founded Nehr Ghar Films with a view to add their unique flavour to the business of story-telling in Pakistan. They announced their debut feature film, Laal Kabootar last month with a very catch poster in red. It is the siblings’ first foray into the world of cinema, one they hope to make with a bang in 2019. The introduction of this pair marks the entry of the next generation of filmmakers into Pakistan’s growing cinema landscape.

After almost three weeks of announcing their first feature film, Laal Kabootar, Nehr Ghar Films is proud to reveal the hands and minds that went into creating it. It is going to be directed by Kamal Khan while Zoobia Anwar and Shahrukh Kalim will assist him. It is written by Karachi-based screenwriter Ali Abbas Naqvi. Ace cinematographer who’s done films like Cake, 021 and Jalebi will co-produce the film as well as photograph it.

Mariam Azmi will head the costume department of the film while the production design will be supervised by Zain Khan. Owais Shamsi is the line producer of the film. Former Coke Studio producer Rohail Hyat’s son Danyal Hyat will do the score of the film. Music director Taha Malik will compose some catchy tracks for the film. Now let’s wait and watch what these new comers bring us.

Two days ago Durj’s trailer was finally launched. Shamoon had announced it long ago along with Gum, another film by Abbasi starring Sami Khan. The trailer shows that is a very intense film as it tells a story of a cannibal. Shamoon said that there are basically three stories which merge into one.

He was inspired by a family in Punjab which dug graves and earthed the bodies and another man who would dig graves of young girls and raped them. Shamoon said, “That struck me. It became a nightmare for me to know that there are people in this country who are doing this and roaming free. If this thing becomes easy [to carry out], nobody is actually going to be safe.”

On challenges of being playing such a difficult role on screen, he said, “It was not an easy job. When you’re thinking of doing such a role you need a lot of research; you cannot just be a negative role onscreen, you need to have a psychological aspect to it.”

He also had a hard time preparing for the part and it took very long. He said, “I had to keep my beard for almost two years to make it look real and give it that length. It took me three months to grow my nails. I did not want to use wigs or fake props for this movie. Our viewers are very smart now and I didn’t want to cheat them if we are doing something so real, it has to be convincing.” This makes us only look forward to the film more and more.

Zara Noor Abbas is also becoming a regular on our television screens after her drama Khamoshi went on to become a hit on the TRP charts. Her character Arsala though not loved immensely was still liked by the audiences. She has since been seen in HUM TV’s Lamhay opposite Shaaz Khan. Another of her dramas is all set to hit the screens. She will be starring opposite Syed Jibran in this one. Syed Jibran is also currently a part of Ranjha Ranjha Kardi which is getting huge love from the viewers due to phenomenal acting by all the actors.

Zara will again portray a middle class girl in the upcoming Qaid and this time again her father will be the one causing obstacles in her way. She will also get arrested and we can only hope the father does not go for the suicide option. The promo looks depressing but the story seems a bit interesting with all the police case angle. Actor Asad Malik got arrested on Monday at Allama Iqbal International Airport when he was carrying an automatic gun with an expired license. The actor was travelling from Lahore to Karachi when the gun was found in his luggage. He was then detained by the ASF and taken into custody.

The actor has now been granted bail against the surety bonds of 50000 rupees. He was taken to the court in Katcheri Cantt. where he was granted bail. It has also been in the reports that Asad Malik has previously served time in jail for the murder of two people. ASF was vigilante in their task as they detained the actor and made sure the security of other people.

Sarwat recently gave an interview to BBC Urdu where she said, “Let’s make films for women on women by women.” She said,”The formulas which were used in the past were a success and people want to carry on with it but we want to get out from that as it is our responsibility to think of the society or for the woman standing next to us as there are already very few who can do this so it is going to be a bit difficult as channels or even individual producers don’t support this.”

She also said that she’s very good friends with Mahira, Aaminah and Sanam and the often talk about the fact that there should be more films on women.

He gives the credit of his transformation to his mother. He said it was her according to him who persuaded him to lose weight. Well, we must say that is one really good advice.
