Kapil Dev Raises Voice for Injustice with Imran Khan

Imran Khan is a former Pakistani great cricketer and former Prime Minister (2018-2022) who led Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup. Imran Khan has now been in jail for more than 1,000 days. There have been no court hearings, his meetings with family have been restricted, and there has been no access to him. International media, his colleagues, and public figures have often raise their voices for Imran Khan in their own capacity.

While giving an interview to cricket analyst Vikrant Gupta, Kapil Dev said, “I would not say that we were friends, but whenever we had to talk, we would sit and have conversations. The great advantage we had was that he was Punjabi, so it was easy to communicate. Otherwise, we had very different lifestyles. We were different because his upbringing, training, and lifestyle were completely different from ours. What I had predicted about Khan becoming PM was based on history. Such things do happen. For example, in South India, we have seen actors become Chief Ministers. History tells us that such transitions are possible and Imran fought for more than twenty years to become Prime Minister. We did not attend his swearing-in ceremony despite receiving an invitation because the relationship between our countries was not good. It would have been an honour to be part of the ceremony, but I couldn’t go against my country, unlike Sidhu, who was a politician. I feel bad about whatever treatment he is receiving in Pakistan because he was not only a cricketer but also the former Prime Minister of Pakistan. I don’t know what charges are against him, but the treatment should be fair. My plea is that he should be given justice and treated fairly. We were proud when he became Prime Minister, and now I am concerned about how he is being treated. Every human being deserves fair and humane treatment, regardless of whatever the laws are in Pakistan.” Watch here:
