Famous singer Resham has passed away. She died today 3rd November 2013 in Lahore she had cancer since 1980. Reshma was in hospital since April 2013 due to her critical condition. She was one of famous folk singers of sub-continent.

Reshma was born in Bikaner, Indian State of Rajastha to a Banjara (Gypsy) family, and spend most of her childhood singing at the shrines of Sindh. After partition her family shifted to Pakistan. When she was twelve years old, she was spotted singing at Shahbaaz Qalandar’s shrine by radio producer Saleem Gillani, who introduced her to radio. She became an instant hit and continued her journey to success ever after. In 1980’s she was invited on a state visit to India by Indira Gandhi.

Reshma, has been one of the most popular folk singer of Pakistan, she recorded songs for both pakistani and indian films, and performed in various countries too. She was not formally educated in music and cannot read or write in start of career too. She is also remembered by the title ‘Bulbale Sahra’ i.e. Nightingale of deserts. Reshma has always been admired for her simplicity and humble personality. Despite a leading singer, she has always been a humble person.

Her famous songs are ‘Haye o rabba nayee o lagda dil mera’, ‘we mein chori chori’, ‘akhiyan no rehn day, akhiyan de kol wey’, ‘kithhay nain naa joreen’, ‘mango ni dua sakhiyon’, ‘meri hamjoliyan’. Her sister kaneez reshma is also a singer. Her son Sanwal and daughter zarina reshma are also singer but none could reach the heights of Reshma.

Reshma’s residence was in Icchra, Lahore. She was married in a young age and has two sons and two daughters. Her voice will always be remembered by her followers around the world. May her soul rest in peace.

Resham is one of Pakistan’s most respected and vocal celebrities, known for her deep love for the country and Islam. She actively speaks out on social issues and is widely appreciated for her consistent charity work. On every important Islamic occasion, Resham personally cooks food and distributes it among the underprivileged. The actor never compromises on the quality and the quantity of food.

During Muharram, she prepares large cauldrons of food and drinks daily for distribution. This year, she included her niece in her charitable efforts, saying in a heartfelt moment, “I am teaching her the act of kindness and charity—after me, she has to carry this legacy. This langar is purely being run by the blessings of Allah because I can’t do this on a larger scale on my own. Khalil-ur-Rehman is on fire. He is all over the news channels, social media, and on everyone’s mind. He has no right to discuss women as he did on a live television show. He showed his harsh side, and now, many of his fans are against him. 

Like the general public, many Pakistani actors are against him. He is a wonderful writer, but he is not at all a great human being. Today, Mansoor Ali called Khalil-ur-Rehman on his show. He wanted to know the reason behind Khalil’s behavior and whether he feels guilty or not. 

Resham and Amir Liaquat were also invited to share their opinions for everything that happened yesterday. Resham said that Khalil-ur-Rehman is the big name of our television industry. He has earned a lot of love, respect, and popularity as a writer. Meray Pass Tum Ho was a blockbuster. 

Resham also said that after saying bad things to a woman on a television show, abusing her, and disrespecting her in front of everyone, you are asking what you did wrong? If he is portraying a Pakistani wife greedy and selfish in his drama, he may portray someone’s mother or sister greedy and selfish in his drama one day. I feel sorry for all those actresses who worked with you. Khalil-ur-Rehman disappointed all his female fans.

Avoiding further wicked situation, Resham had no other option but to escape from the place from backstage, leaving the candidates empty hands.

She has been visiting Shaukat Khanum Memorial hospital to spend time with cancer patients and out of good-will and human care. It is always a mutual contract between artists and film makers. Also, I feel so sad that many of our artists spoke after they were banned in India. Okay,I understand that they were working in India but when it comes to the motherland they should stand firm with their country. I believe we should render our services to the armed forces. I am ready to go on the border. They stand on borders day and night just for our peace. We should be like that when our country needs us.

Seems like the future of Lollywood is changing. After a back to bacl success of Shoaib Mansoor’s Khuda k Liye and Bol, it is evident that the audience is interested to watch the targeted stories that hold a reflection of their cultures and the miseries that the nation is facing. The movie after Lamha-The Seedlings, that is predicted to do a  great business is Swaarangi- the Melting Embers which is a reflection of life of  woman of village.

The story-line is written by Phida Hussain, who is  also the director of the film. The screenplay has also been done Phidda Hussain himself with Mazhar Abbas. The movie has a good cast where every actor is unique and great with the role been played by him. The cast includes,  Resham, Ayub Khosa, Naveed Akbar, Waseem Manzoor,Zulfiqar Gullshahi, Aftab Nisar, Hamza Mushtaq, Shahzaib Johar.

The story revolves around a character Salma, been played by Resham, who is extremely worried and unhappy due to her Husband’s addiction to drug. Her husband Jamal (Naveed Akbar), is a truly addicted person who only loves his drugs and nothing else matters to him. Making Salma’s life more difficult, it is Zaryaab (Waseem Manzoor) who makes sure that Jamal doesn’t comes out it.

Talking about YouTube and YouTubers hurling accusations and hate on celebrities, Resham said that the hateful YouTubers are the ones who need training and need to develop love, respect and empathy in them. It seems that they don’t have any other job then spewing venom on others. They wake up with hate, sit on YouTube, talk against big celebrities. She was indirectly referring to Dr Omer Adil who previously criticized Resham on her Langar and also said that Resham used to record phone calls of others.

Besides this, Resham also talked about Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar, she said, “Why are you talking against big celebrities like Saba Qamar and Nauman Ijaz, you have become so miserable because of your obnoxious thoughts, you go to the notorious places at night, just because of your viral video, we have seen you, otherwise we didn’t know about you”. She said that these people have gotten lesson now a transgender (Dr Omer Adil) needs to be exposed too.

Resham is a diva of old Lollywood and she has ruled over the film world and then in the drama industry when she switched towards dramas. While talking to Momin Ali Munshi Resham discussed everything from her career to her relationship with her co-stars. When Momin asked Resham about a particular song from a film in which she was part of some very bold scenes opposite Shaan. Resham gave an answer which was honest and direct.

I never saw her talking in a loud voice in front of her husband. He has beaten her with a pistol”.

She further added, “I am quite upset to see her, I am literally crying after seeing her condition. On the 23rd of March, a venerable ceremony took place in which the president of Pakistan awarded various celebrities of all age groups with the prestigious Pride of Performance Award. The actor and director Sakina Samo who was also one of the receivers while giving an interview said that Resham and Ali Zafar don’t deserve the award.

“It is sad that the government has given such a huge award to people like Resham and Ali Zafar, who in my opinion don’t really deserve it,” said Sakina Samo.

Resham also came back with a reply and while giving an interview to one of Pakistan’s leading media portals she said: “Perhaps I don’t deserve any awards or accolades. However, the point to ponder over here is, do great and senior actors globally give such demeaning remarks towards their juniors? Remarks that belittle and undermine years of struggles and hard work of another actor specially their juniors? Big actors, in their true sense, have big hearts.

May God bless her with more awards, but she should reflect upon the fact that but when someone tries to put someone else down, it shows their own caliber and character, not the other person’s.”

Imran Abbas, Natasha Hussain, Sharmila Faruqi, and Imran Aslam also sent their prayers for Resham’s late brother.

The recent floods have devastated a large part of Punjab and Sindh province leaving many affected persons. While many are contributing to flood relief efforts, Resham has also handed over a truck carrying goods to army worth rupees 8,00,000 (8 laakh).

As per Resham she arranged all this with the help of fellow artists, Rahat Fatah Ali contributed 100,000 (1 lakh), Nauman Ejaz, Ahsan Khan and Juggan Kazim provided Rs. 25,000 each while the rest is arranged by Resham. Resham further told she always strives to help the victims of any catastrophic event and also urged the fellow artists and nation to show the same spirit. Resham also praised and acknowledged the relief work of Pak Army,  saying Army has always been the leading institution helping the victims so she also decided to handover the truck to Pak Army.
